I just rebuilt my D16z6 and i broke it in for 1200 miles now and i have a small problem. Every once and awhile i have a small puff of smoke come from my exhaust on start up and when i accelerate hard i see a small trail of smoke at night. I can't see anything during the day. Tonight i saw a small trail of smoke in the headlights of a vehicle when i down shifted into 2nd from third. I was at 4,500 rpm. I took it home and let it sit and then took it back out and let it run hard and i kept looking for that trail of smoke in the headlights, but i didn't see any. My setup is stock d16z6 except crower stage 2 cam, AEM cam gear, APC wires, stock fuel system, stock ecu. My timing is not completely perfect, i'm alittle advanced on the dizzy. I'm just praying it isn't the rings. BUt if it was the rings, wouldn't it smoke all the time?

how are your oil/coolant levels?
do a compression and leak down test....if all goes well i wouldn't worry about it
o and you should really have it tuned if you're running a stage2 cam....it's a world of difference..
my car smokes from time to time and it doesn't bother me, my oil is pretty steady and my coolant is always full so no worries

 

what color is the smoke?
