potential buyer....already look at faq..but still got ?
ok im only 21 and right now i own an eg....but im really thinking about gettin the s2k because my eg has been jacked 3 times and i dont want to put money into it to only get jacked again...so heres my questions
im lookin at an 00 are there any recalled items for that year, or many refinements done to the 01 that i shoudl just go for that
most im looking at are about 80xxx miles and around 15000.....how is the s2k's reliablity in the higher end miles if i buy one from a guy who never really "used" his car(and knowing im gonna really push the car), and whats the lowest you think i can get one for or should offer
are s2k's stolen as commonly as eg's?
whats the average shock/spring lowering cost (tien/omni power/jic)
how much are you guys 6 months insurance costs
on average how much is a full gas tank for you guys + how many miles u get
i can put like 9 g's in cash..and get a loan for the other 6 from family or a bank(kinda want to build my credit).....
so what do you guys think....smart move for a youngin like me or no?

This is my honest opinion. I live near you.
I thought of getting an S2000 too. I found a sweet one, ran great, had like 18000 miles on it, salvage from theft not wreck, dude only wanted 19,000 for it, but I backed out because it was a lot of money for a car that can't seat 4 people.
There's not a lot of difference between 2000 and 2001, but 2002 did have a Glass convertible window if I'm not mistaken.
Ask yourself, how much of a daily driver is this going to be? Do you have a lot of friends? Do you buy groceries, run errands, stuff like that? Most people buy an S2K because it's relatively cheap compared to other sports cars, it has an awesome engine, and it's just ****** sexy, but they don't realize something: The car isn't meant to be a point A> B beater. It has its faults compared to other cars.
Space is one issue. The other issue is that S2000's also get stolen. The OTHER issue is that the car itself caters really to one style of driving. The car has awesome seats, great dash and everything, but it's just REALLY loud to be in one, especially on the freeway.
My opinion- If you're gonna get one, do it right the first time. Don't get it because you can get one with 80,000 miles for 15,000. Keep your EG stock for another couple of months, and put a picture of a clean S2000 on your door in your bedroom. Tell yourself, "That's my car, I just have to wait XX days to get it" and save up a few more grand to get one with low mileage.
The F20 is a reliable engine as long as the previous owner didn't treat it badly. I'd advise you research the previous owner and pay attention to detail. Don't believe the previous owner if he's 24-30 and he bullshits you with "I never drove it hard". I'd rather find a 24-30 year old seller who admits he drives it hard and has proof of maintaining the car properly, than someone who claims they never drove it hard and it was "mostly freeway commuting", especially with an S2000.
Remember that S2000's are just as hot on the street as EG's and DC's. They get stolen too, and a LOT of people have had their convertible slashed and seats torn out.

S2000's don't get stole per say (I've realy never heard of one actually being stolen) Usually its vandalism and the top being slashed, seats stolen as most common problem. Yo remedy this, just get a hardtop.

You are wrong on that, there were 6 non salvaged pretty mint cars that just sold on s2ki.com
There are at least 5 within 300 miles from my house for 16000 one of which I am looking at in an hour with 55000 miles.

yea i have seen some on ebay, and other states go lower, but since the OP is in san diego, cars are more expensive in california, especially convertables

i looked at one today....
the guy wanted 15500 for oen with 84000 miles, messed up front bumper, fender, and interior was kinda ripped....
kbb for "good" condition with 74000 is 15270, so i think i can find one for 15 thats decent?????
it was my 1st time driving a s2k...i was impressed, but it did fell like the back end grabed late at some turns, iono if it was his or im just not used to rwd....but it made me want one even more
really want a white one with black interior....and i've never seen a white one for sale
last question...if i buy a theft recovered salvaged....does that raise my insurance????

No, it just means if you crash you get a non repairable title I think.
Dude, don't get one with 84000 miles.
Check S2ki.com or s2kclub or whatever. Try to bargain with someone asking 18k and see if they'll take 16k or something. If you're going salvaged, you might as well get one with low mileage. Clean title, might as well get one with DECENT mileage lol. And if the front bumper, fender and interior are fucked up it's "FAIR" condition, not good. Good is damn near factory finish with the exceptions being MINOR blemishes. If a car needs ANY body/interior work to be factory finish, it's "FAIR" condition, not good. He's definitely ripping you for that price and he definitely gave that car hell.
Either that or the tires are fucked.

i'll check those forums thanks
but still, i heard insurance rates are higher for salvaged cars?

I was in your situation couple months ago, except it was a turbo accord that i was trying to get rid of(smog, sh=t breaking, tired of cop, etc)
the lowest priced s i saw was a salvaged ap1 with no air bag and air condition, some dude sold it here around 11K and the buyer put it on ht the month after for 12k
15k for s? go for a high mileage S instead of salvage. There's a guy on s2ki with a 170k S w/ a Supercharger. People thinks the motor will not last because the 9k rev, my motor pulled perfect compression and leakdown with 90k at the ticker.
The diff and clutch is fine, and yes, i vtec and beat on the S everyday(daily driver)
My search for salvage was very painful, no one is honest about it and the repair works on X bone=headache, etc. It's hard to say how much is a fair price for salvage since no two salvage are exactly alike.
i brough my S in socal @90K for 14k, clean title, 90k service done, honda cert and still under warranty til it hit 100k. Internor is mint, it have couple of ding and that's about it.(comes with side strake, real spoiler, upgrade sounds+other misc item)
15k is very possible, dont let the other discourage your from getting something you want.
with the S, you might need to consider buying another beater. it's small, ride tough, noisey, loud and peaky.
insurance was not much higher than my 02 accord but i do have a perfect record.
don't lower the car the day you got it, drive for a while before you make a change. i was saving up for a coilover before dumping the whole idea. The suspension is very well tuned right out of the box, plus you can't even get a regular size jack in without some aid from 2x4's
i don't think insurance rate would be higher but i DO know you can't just walk into a bank and get a penny of loan for salvage. Unless your folks got some saving, bank aint going to help.
Keep SEARCHING, i drove more than 1000 miles for local used S before hitting jackpot for mine.
