what kinda gain can you get from an exhaust and intake on a 97 lude????
I will go with the short ram aem, and probably an apexi N1, but if other exhaust are better and around the same price let me know.

you will lose power with any kind of underhood intake
underhood intake aka short ram, sucks hot engine air in, hot air = loss of hp
The original question was in regards a short ram intake, so my comment was restricted to those. In my experience, you will gain some HP from a CAI.

Matt there was a test done on shart ram intakes. They did lose hp. All of the dyno charts in magazines are done with the hoods open with air being blown over the intake filter. It's basically a totally unrealistic dyno. I'm putting my stock air box in and picking up a K&N until I have the spare cash for an AEM cai.

i have not looked under the hood of one (yet) but would the stock airbox not be more restricing then a exposed filter, hence a hp gain no matter what, unless hondas are freaks of natures and are the only engines that make more hp with less airflow and a more restricted intake.....
Stock air boxes at least suck up cold air from under the passenger side bumper. The hot air taken in by a short ram intake kills and power gained by a freer air path.

But hey, if you are really that sure, go ahead and ignore what I've told you. It's your money.

This is crap, I have a short ram intake and i got a big difference in power. Night and day. So all of you guys dissing short ram kiss my ***,cause you probably never driven a car with a short ram, your just talking about what you heard from a friend with a ghetto home hade intake. Sorry for going on but it's tru.

So watch it when you start blowing smoke from your *******. I don't normally post things as fact that I don't have some direct knowledge of - on the occasions I do, I qualify them as such. I'm glad you are enjoying your short-ram. They sure do SOUND fast...

All you have to do is put a heat shield around a short ram. $10 worth of aluminum from Home Depot.
You most definitely would not lose power with a short ram. In fact, you'll gain throughout the rpm range, as opposed to the midrange hump of the cold air.

I think some of that heavier foam-board insulation might be easier to cut/fit/seal - I'd also be a little concerned that aluminum might wear a hole in the intake tube over time from vibration - I would also be inclined to open the hole that the factory intake goes thru some more. Note tho that this is more than just sticking the intake on the car and assuming it will make some power. If you just stick the thing on the car, it will lose power from stock.

Ok, you don't know how my car runs with it. I felt a big diffrence. I know for a fact that did not lose power. I gained. SO you can kiss my ***.
Oh yeah - I'm sure we're all real impressed w/ you butt-dyno numbers - did you correct for conditions or is your gain uncorrected?
Man, as long as you're happy w/ your intake, more power to you - but in this case, you're factually incorrect.
