Default Pressure in tank

I was getting gas today and when i was opening the lid it shot open with force. It seems like there was a lot of pressure in the tank. It has happend before but not this bad. Before it would make a little suction sound. Today it shot out and misted gas out.

Any idea on why this is? This is the first time it has been happening since I have had my bike. Going on 2 years now.

I had that happen once with a 5 gallon jug, it literally shot out in my face. Only thing i could think of was the heat causing a pressure buildup.

It was particular hot today. Any chance you left your bike out in the sun for awhile with very little gas in it? Chances are the heat caused some of the gas to evaporate and the air inside the tank to expand, building pressure until you opened the cap.

This is the first time i have rode in about a week. It has been kept in the garage the whole time. I was riding for about an hour before I got gas. It was about 80 when I was riding. My garage was mid 70's or so.

I assumed it was just heat.
