Default terminals crossed, short? , now what?

i was wondering what could be wrong with the car and how much would it probably cost me to get it fixed if someone crossed the terminals on a battery installation?

it would probably just blow the relay (in the black box under the hood, passenger side near firewall). thats what i would check first. if this was the case, there would be no power supply to the car.

It would probably blow one of the big fuses in the fuse block under the hood

Ignore the red line, check the two big ones held in with phillips head screws..

could it be worse than that though ? and how much do you think it would cost? im trying to figure this out to decide if i want to pick up a car from a guy who said this is what happened and he says he "blew the main relay and that i would have to get one and find out where the short is."

No man, 100% the 60a fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay is the onyl thing that blows, thats all that can blow, thats all that did blow and thats your problem

Its not a regular fuse though, i had to hit a few stores to find that style, cost $5 or so, i grabbed a spare

If its anything more than that, then that is not what happened to defect the car

You cant tell without him knowing you fixed it man

Is it really that good of a deal? If you get the chance, pop the fuse box quick and just check the top of the fuse, it has a clear top with a copper connection through the middle, if its blown, id assume he isnt lying and thats the problem

But id also assume that someone would be smart enough to check fuses if something like this happenned and something else might be the matter

Give him a downpayment and fix it maybe, get everything in writing

well, whats the car, what kind of shapt, which motor, etc...and how much is he wanting for it? If its a good deal, I'd do it, and just figure it out over time if it was more serious....but it sounds like a simple fix like the rest of the posters have stated.

90 Honda Civic 4 dr EX...Clean title 5 spd
-Power windows,locks,mirrors...
-JDM D15b Vtec(130hp rated) with 60k miles
-Chipped PM6 +Hondata... No governor...=plenty to go into 8k rpm
-3 Inch OBX-r Intake
-OBX-r headers 4-2-1
-2.5 inch full exhaust from headers back to an angle tip muffler
-Short shifter with GSR shift ****
-Racer Design Coilovers lowered but still comfy
-Tires with 70% tread
-Full compustar alarm with Keyless entry
-Alarm sets itself after 3 beeps and is loud

only bad thing...were changing in a Battery...and my friend crossed the terminals...=short circuits and blew the main relay...you can get that from a junkyard...all you need is a little time and figure out where the short went...

for $1300 , thats a good deal right? im gunna try to get it for 900 or 1000 though i think.

$26/day, return to any location for the one that goes under the car and wraps around the front tires

On a lowerred car that might be tough though

If this car is modified, dont you think the guy would know how to change a fuse though man?

I rented one last weekend in NC to get my car, and it was a $60 deposit, and $29 for the day IF I had it back within 24 hours, which somehow I managed....Also, if you want to pick it up and then drop it off at a DIFFERENT location, its like another $100....I said screw that , and towed it 450 miles to get my car, then another 450 back to drop it off where I got it....Did'nt hurt my mileage at all seeing how its just two wheels and a pretty light frame.... Good luck man!

You'd think, but if hes dumb enough to switch the positive and negative terminals like that, then I beleivethat question is irrelevant...When you think about it, it would'nt be the easiest thing to do, unless he has terminal cables that have been replaced and are the same color and you can't tell from looking at them where they go, unless you follow the cables....

so **** even if the car has someother electrical expletive up, the parts on it alone would be worth like 900 bucks or so. dont you all think?

also so if he is by some chance right about him blowing the main relay, how much would a new one cost, anyone know? easy to put in or is it gunna cost me some skrilla? and is it just the normal one out of any ef or do i need some special one or what for the jdm d15b?

Been there done that, It is either the 60 or 70A fuse in your black fuse box under your hood. Had this happen to two cars, and btw for future reference 88 always post good info so take his word
