Default Skunk Pro2 cams in 97 R, idle?

My cousin has a 1997 R and just installed Skunk2 Pro2 cams but were having a really hard time trying to make it idle. It has a Apexi VAFC and is running the stock itr ecu. Anyone have any experince with the Skunk2 Pro2's to make it idle, and another question is should this ECU be able to handle these cams, any help would be appreciative

its not a stock motor bro, block is bored/sleeved to 84.5mm, the only thing that is stock is basically the ECU.

Even more of a reason not to run the stock ECU. Get it tuned!

DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. You ******* with it is only going to make matters worse.

If the motor is built and bored and sleeved and etc, why the hell is he only using a VAFC? Get a Hondata, Crome or Uberdata and get it professionally tuned on a dyno.

to answer your question, those cams SHOULD purrrr at idle. even with the stock ecu and injectors.

but the big question is what else did you do while installing the cams??? did the afc go in at the same time? if so, take it out.

Skunk 2 pro's have a lopey idle because of the Large primarys they have, even with good tuning with hondata or chrome etc. you will still have somewhat of that lopey idle.

but the car should still idle and not stall out.

when he says pro i take that as pro-series which are available in different stages, and with stg 1-2 i've never had a lopey idle and with 3's its very little. ????

sounds like he has something else going on to me.

Mike thanks for the info that i already know about the new Pro series cams have larger primary lobes(mike you retard), the Apexi VAFC was already in the car, we put in a friends chipped P28 ECU and it helped a little, but still sometimes wanna die, we just need to take this thing to a dyno and tune it something better than VAFC, think Hondata or Crome. There is nothing wrong with the motor, its just the tuning that is needed for this bad boy to idle

probably because the baseline on the ecu was not made for toni's set up how many times do i have to tell these ametures , one ecu DOESNT fit all

you NEED atleast a basemap with those cams for them to idle...SEARCH next time

Wrong. There is alot of overlap present on those cams causing a lack of vacuum in the manifold throwing off the MAP sensor reading.

It SHOULD idle and stall out. Especially if you installed the cams 'straight up'. The Pro Series camshafts are very aggressive. Dont be fooled by the Stage #'s. That Stage 2 is not made to be a 'drop in' cam. Retard the intake cam 1-2 degree's and take away fuel at idle UNTIL you can get it to the dyno.
