Fuel Pump problem with 89 Si
My mom gave my little brother my old Si. They told me the timing belt was popped. So I gathered my tools today and was going to change it, but when I popped the valve cover that thing was as new as it could get. So I decided to put a charge on the battery to see if it would turn over. First I turned the ignition to the "on" postion and didn't hear the fuel pump prime. I turned it back to the "off" postion. I let the battery charge for about 10 minutes to make sure I had optimal power to crank the car with. This time when I turned the key "on" there was a clicking noise coming from under the dash and still no fuel pump prime. I checked all the fuses and they were all good. Then I said what the hell. I'll try and start it anyway. I pushed in the clutch and when I turned the key all the way it turned over once but while doing so the RPM needle went to about 4 thousand rpms and back down. Does any of this make sense to anyone. My brothers got a while before he can even drive, but I would like to get this problem solved. Thanks in advance for any info. If you need to see any kind of pictures of anything I can take them no problem.

When the ignitor is going bad it will cause weird issues with the rpm needled.
Are you getting fuel though ? Are you getting spark ?

No I can't hear the fuel pump prime. It should be getting spark. When you say ignigtor do you mean the ignition coil in the distributor.
The same the happened each time a tried to crank it.

Yeah, if you cant hear the pump, definetly check the hose off the filter! Mine wasn't priming, and when I pulled the house, gas leaked for about 20 seconds (just more of a drip than anything) and then pretty much stopped....was definetly the main relay, now its working good after resoldering the thing.

i didnt have a chance to get the fuel filter for fuel, but i did talk to my mom today,( she is the one who was driving the car when it broke down, she said she was driving, and all of a sudden it started back firing and then it shut off ) so does any of this make any sense?

Check for fuel, spark and timing, make sure the belt did not break

It is getting fuel, it is getting spark all the way to plugs, I'm a little unsure on timing. Would it be wise to loosen the timing belt tensioner. line the crank pulley up top dead center, and then line the cam gear up and then reinstall the belt? its turning over, put its popping, so it kinda sounds like a timing issue.
