Tire Picking help
I need help picking out some tires.
if I want to get rims with
15x6.5 with 40 offset
what sizes will fit on these rims? I'd like to have it low profile, close to the Civic Si 99-00

i'm just confused about the offset and the ratio?
because when i select my tires it'll say... 195/??/15
i think i understand the first and last number
but the middle... the some ratio... does that mean the... 15x 6.5? so do i select 65?

the middle number is basically the height of the sidewall of the tire..or the "thickness" from edge of rim to edge of tire 35 series tires will look like electrical tape wrapped around your wheel..and well..you can see what 50 series will look like from the pic above.

No. The "middle number" is the profile/series. Or the height of the tire.
the 6.5 means the width of the rim itself

the middle number is the height of the sidewall, but it is listed as a percent of the tread width. for example, 205/50/15 means the tread is 205mm wide, and the sidewall is 50% of that width, and it fits on a 15" rim.

195s are meaty-looking? LoL . . . I guess my 225/45-15s are like steamrollers then.

It's not round when it's on a 7"+ wheel . . .

you guys are all lost.
i feel like a retard for actually reading all the stuff you guys wrote, so let me clear this up.
the first number is the width of the tire. the second number is the hieght of the tire measured in percentage of the width. so for example a 195/50 tire...the height is 50% of its width. a 195/60 tire...the height is 60% of its width. get it? not that hard. offset has nothing to do with tires. offset has to do with how far the wheel protrudes from the hub. and finally...when you look at the width of you rim...for example 6.5 inches...you have to make sure with the company of the tire you choose... what size will be able to hold on what width. on most 15 inch wheels, a 205 tire is as wide as you can go. ive seen 215 but it depends on the make and model of tire.

for your car, (you mentioned 99-00 si so thats what im going off) came with (IIRC) 195/55/15 stock, moving down to a 195/50/15 will throw your speedometer and odometer off by 3.3%. the 195/50 is over 3/4" smaller diameter than the 195/55.
the smaller tires also mess with your final gearing too since mph/rpm functions off tire size as well sa transmission ratios
if you want a slightly wider tire then go 205/50/15, its only 1/3" smaller or 1.6%.
195/55/15 or 205/50/15 are your best options.

ok first off this should be in the wheel and tire forum and not here.
second it depends for which car this tire is going on.
If it is going on a 92-95 civic then the correct size would be 195/50/15
if it is for a 99-00 civic Si then the correct size would be 195/55/15 or 205/50/15 but the 195/55/15 would be much better.
If you go to the tire forum there is Nsxtasy there and he could answer you question about tires and offsets much better then anybody here.
