Engine rebuild questions
I have the D16 from my '88 CRX removed and disassembled. I'm getting ready to order the parts for the rebuild. I will definitely be replacing the rings and bearings. My question is; besides rings and bearings, what parts would be considered critical to replace? How important is it to replace rod cap bolts? Or pistons? Or wristpins? I don't see how the wristpins are removed. The pins do have a little play in them, but it seems to be normal, because all 4 pistons have the same amount of wiggle to them.
Keep in mind, the engine ran fine when I pulled it. It had 215,000 miles on it and it burned/ leaked a little oil. The cylinders don't seem to have much wear on them. There is no ridge whatsoever at the top of the cylinders. My plan is not to build a more powerful engine. I just want a clean, smooth running stock car. Basically, when I finish, I want this car to run and drive about as good as it did when it was new. I'm also picking up a low mileage transmission, because the stock one had a bad input shaft bearing, and was starting to grind a little. I'll also replace the clutch.
Also, what about the head? My plan was just to soak it in parts cleaner, then adjust the valves.
I would appreciate any advice from someone who has done a stock rebuild.
Thanks.

it depends on what you are looking to go for, replacing rods and pistons will be only needed if you are looking to go with a good ammount of boost.
you should have the block hottanked, honed crank examined ect
there a good ammount of work that is going to be needed to get everythnig right

main seals, oil pan gasket, head gasket, water pump, crank pulley bolt.
If you can, getting the valve seals on the head replaced should help alot, too.
clean that oil pickup screen and the little oil jet.
I think the other big ones to consider replacing would be head studs and rod bolts.
Its easy to get carried away

Interesting - I would have thought you'd need a rebore and new pistons after 215K miles? Any serious wear on the cam and rocker arms? Wristpins are pressed in/out.
Good suggestions the previous comments...how long have you owned the car? You must have been pretty good with oil changes/maintenance.
Majestic Honda is always better than the local Honda dealer http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/. It IS easy to get carried away!..especially after looking at some of the rebuild threads in here.
Good luck with the rebuild...any pics?
