Not really, in this case.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by marmaladeboy &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">It's very humiliating to ride over your head. </TD></TR></TABLE>
no... depasse doesn't mean 'over your head'; not that i've ever seen in my life at least.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by censored &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">"It is so humiliating to be surpassed"</TD></TR></TABLE>
This is the most accurate translation.

Duh.

Can anyone tell me the difference between seppuku and hara-kiri? I know both of them refer to suicide, but I don't know the difference beyond that.

Seems they are the same thing. The former is formal language and the latter is common language.

The term hara-kiri tends to be considered more crude and even a bit insulting when used.
