'91 Accord EX - transmission and/or torque converter
I've posted this previously but I wanted a second opinion, plus I have more information. Now, my car is doing two things not completely right, and I feel like they both point toward the torque converter, yet my dad seems to think it's all the transmission.
Problem #1:
While cruising, the lockup clutch doesn't stay engaged as should all the time. Sometimes it works great, other times it will keep engaging and disengaging over and over. Since the lockup clutch is in the torque converter, this obviously leads to: TORQUE CONVERTER
Problem #2:
The other problem could possibly be the transmission. One person I talked to had the same problem and said it was his torque converter. When going into Reverse or Drive, there's a delay sometimes. Like the clutch problem, it doesn't ALWAYS happen, just sometimes. It's usually about a 1 second to 1.5 second delay. A former coworker said his Nissan truck did the same thing (yes, I know we're comparing apples to oranges with Nissan truck vs. Honda coupe). He said the delay would get bigger and bigger, and eventually putting the truck in Reverse would make it go forward. He said the culprit was the torque converter.
How does this all sound to you all? Maybe both could be having problems.
