Your engine is fine. It could be turbocharged to hell (not sure I think the DSM turbo setup swaps right in this one you'd have to search by your engine code). The automatic transmission is what would hold you back.

What are your goals is the real question? What kind of money do you have?
As much as I hate the K bandwagon if you have unlimited money the K24 w/ ITR head may be the best idea.
Otherwise a good old H22A will do you well unless you want to boost. They take a little more work (cylinder wise) to handle real boost.
The F22A is great for boost from the start (no FRM sleeves) and you just happen to already have one sitting in your engine bay.
