Default Building a new motor for the R

Hey guys just thought I would get a opinion on my new motor build up. I'm actually going to pull my C5 (no, I'm not going to sell it) and store it, I feel bad with the level of HP that im gunning for, and the strain it would put on my motor so a new build up is on the way.

Ive actually got a B20Z block, so thats my best option as a starting plateform, but I'm also leaning toward a K20/24 hybid. I just think it would be a awesome motor, specially boosted. I just havnt heard alot about em, and dont know the pros & cons to K20/24.

So any thoughts on the subject of the ol' CR-VTEC VS. K20/24 Hybrd would be cool, just weighing out my options before I start on a new motor. I'm very familiar with the B20 VTEC, just hoping someone out here has done the K20/24.

if you have b20z whatever it's not C5 anymore.
but there are few options for you. like you can go B series boosted or build n/a and same for K series.. 300 whp n/a is very possible with K build up.
do more searching . go all motor and FI as well.
good luck on your build

Thanks for the info, but I've got over 300whp right now thats the problem. I'm gunning for more like a 500-600whp build up, thats why I dont wanna run my C5 block anymore. Just makes me nervous I dont want to poke holes in it. I WILL keep it, so I can still have a original R just need more power.

Thats why I was a lil' curious if anyone has boosted a K20/24 Hybrid in here. I'll just keep searching though. Seems like a fearly uncommon swap from what lil' searching I have done already. Imagine the TQ. curve though!

Check the turbo section. I don't know of anyone making that kind of power with a K20, but I haven't really looked.

400-500whp with a B series is attainable. I know from personal experience

Well I was thinking about sleeving the C5, but I just don't want to poke holes in a block so rare. Make's me kinda sick to think of a R block with holes in it. Maybe I'm just a wee bit gun shy, but it's my precious R. Though it would probably be the cheapest solution, and is the motor I know best.

I'm still weighing out my options, so a sleeved C5 may be the outcome of this project. I've seen many sleeved fully built turbo C1's making over 500whp so I might just do it. I've got about 9k to play with so you might see a fully built boosted C5 here soon.

Thanks for all the positive feed back though...

Someone on here made around 650whp with a K20/k24 Hybrid with boost. The motor blew, but i dont think it was because the motor couldnt handle the power. But it would have eventually blown. Your going to have to sleeve your block (or at least i would) if you want to run that much horsepower and not have to think about it blowing, so dont go spending big money on a K-series because a b-series with sleeves rods and pistons is going to be cheaper and have pretty much the same potential with boost. Look into the K20/K24 hybrid that on here

Sleeve the b20 block, use your R head, and turbo it. That way you won't "poke any holes in the block".

To the OP:

If you want to run boost, there is no huge advantage to running a K-series versus B-series. There are obvious advantages in the K-series head, but with boost these advantages become less of an issue.

If you are looking to have a reliable build in the 500-600whp range, you will need to sleeve the motor anyways, regardless of K or B.

A friend runs a daily driven 550whp EK. 84mm 10:1cr GT40R @ low 20's boost. Search for the user onefstek.
