I HATE DEALERSHIPS!!
So today I went to start bargaining to buy the 02' S2000 so I got to a number I liked on the car $21500 for an 02' w/39k not bad. Then time to talk about my trade..... here's where the bs comes. They go back and forth telling me for about an hour they can give me the price I want on the trade but the S2K will cost more...ahhhh!! They ended up with a final offer of $22900 for the S2k and $7000 for my 00' Toyota Celica GT-S with 74k. I did not like the offer so I said if thats the best you can do thanks but not thanks and I left. I expected them to follow me outside and give me the deal I wanted or atleast another offer, but that did not happen. I think I made the right choice what do you guys think?
Don't despair, I've known several people who've walked out of dealerships, especially at the end of the month, only to have the dealership call back in the next day or two and meet their terms. One was for a brand new RSX-S when they were new in late 01. Another, the dealer offered only $700 for the trade (worth barely that) then came back and offered $2500 the next day, then $3000 the following day without jacking up the price of the new car.
So, have a chance!

when i bought my 2005 new i got a decent price off the bat, all the s2000's were selling at sticker price the wouldnt reduce because there was plenty demand here, so i got my choice plus 4k off the sticker.
my trade in was a ford ranger worth about 4k they wanted to give me $700 they need room to sell for profit. but to make the deal i wanted more so they settled with 3k on the trade if i agreed to put 6k down cash, which i did. then i noticed that they jacked the price up 8k, and tried to sneek it by me so i would sign....i caught it called them on it and got my price at my terms.
i got my S cheaper than the saleswomen who sold me mine was able to buy her own.

Keep looking. It's worth it to wait it out or even drive a couple hundred miles to try to find a car.
If you can find one from an older guy that would work best. I am always incredibly picky about the car I choose. Rushing into it could mean lots of annoyances later on with little scratches, wear and tear or car issues.
The better condition you find one now, will mean a better resale later.

I just spoke to another dealership and I found a 05' brand new, they are asking 28k and they said there is some wiggle room. Hopefully this will work out. Thanks for the info......LATA!!

Yea I am located in mass. I have called herb chanbers but they don't got a black s2k. I just looked at an 05'...........good price but they only offered me $5000 for my 00' Celica GT-S so I left. I was pissed cause I really liked the car and the price, but I need atleast $8000 for my Toyota. So again its time to start searchin for a S2K that I can afford. PEACE!
I used to sell cars. From what Ive seen everyone thinks there cars worth so much more than it is. 7k for that Celica is right. If they show you anything else, there just taking it out of the profit of the new car to show you what you want to see.
In the long run if they did give you 8k in real life, youll be happy, but there will be some kid posting in the Toyota forum next month about how the dealer wont drop the price on a Celica for him. It never ends.

well what im told the turn around on a trade in is $3k...meaning if ur car is worth 7k the dealer needs to give u 4k for it so they can turn it around and sell for the value of 7k.
my local dealer wont take a trade they cant make 3 k off of

21,500 for an 02 with 39k on it isnt a good deal.
i traded my 02 in at a honda dealorship and got 21,500 for it and it had 19k miles on it. you can get that car for under 20k no problem.

Agreed. $21,500 isn't a good deal at all. I paid $23k for my 04 with 13k on it. It was certified as well. Given, it was in the dead of winter and they probably traded it back of what it was really worth (i.e. they hooked it).
The dealership probably just has too much money in the car. It's not like they didn't want to sell it to you, but they just probably couldn't. They probably just traded it for a little more money than they should have to make a deal on another vehicle, and maybe spent more than they wanted to in the shop. Sometimes those things just happen.
Hey Frank

I know it would be difficult but if you can sell your car yourself (put it up on AutoTrader) and then go to the dealer and drop the cash, you will have much more to bargain with. Also, if you find a buddy (mechanic?) that works at a dealer, they always prefer our type that knows what they want and is ready to buy. I am waiting to sell my turbo teg and will be picking up an 06 or 07 for 28k brand new. I mean we'll see if it holds up but employee discount for the win
well i got an offer of $20452 on an 02 Yellow with 35k miles on it. Is it a good deal? I'm putting down $4000. The advertised price online is $21988. This car is really clean inside and out w/ an AEM cold air intake but it seems like it was taken care real good. What is considered a good deal for this car? I walked out today since it is still too high for me.

If the car were white/silver/black, that wouldn't be a bad deal (though not great). I say that mainly because of resale. If time comes when you have to sell your car, it'll be harder to sell a Yellow one.
Pass on it and buy mine.
