Default Will it wear out?

Will the spring pin connecting the shift linkage to the tranny wear out? I have a 96 civic and I am getting excessive left and right free play on my shifter. I have replaced all possible shifter bushings with no improvement. Will a damged tranny cause this?

I don't think the metal pin can wear out.

Okay, the problem has been solved. Its the main shift linkage that wore out. I replaced it and it shifts sharp and tight now.
