Default I have $1400 to spend on my R, need some ideas!

Well guys, I have $1400 (I know not a lot) to invest w/e I want into my car, and was wondering what some of you would buy, to give me some ideas.

My car already has a lot of power, so I could go for more power, but I was hoping to do more suspension type mods. But hey, I'm open to anything and new to ITR's so show me whats out their. This cash doesnt like being in my pocket

track days, tires, pads, brake fluid, and at the very least, an in-car fire extinguisher.

ATE Blue fluid, GT Sport pads (front) work well for track and street, minimal dusting, no squeak

I noticed your car is turbo, I think your asking the wrong forum what to do to your car next.

And we have no specific details about your set up. Are your fuel system, engine management, and, internals up to par? Cast manifold or tubular? How is your cooling system? Still running p/s and a/c? <---(these are heat generators on a turbo car)

Obviously, alot of guys around here will tell you to buy a 55 gallon drum of brake fluid and driving schools with your money. That reply has become very generic and at times dowright irritating.

An HPDE can cause you to blow a hole in your block if your F/I set up isn't tuned and supported properly, yet many ITR owners will just say, "go to a driving school and wail on it", with no prior knowledge about your particular set up.

The question you have to ask yourself is, wether the car will handle track abuse with the turbo system in it's current state?
What are your goals with the car? ***** out fast turbo street car, or low boost, faster than stock ITR set up for the track?

Get some suspension upgrades like koni's and ground controls, or rims if your still on the stock ones. Or maybe even an HID kit

We have all learned (i hope) that putting money in your car is a very bad investment Now that the smartass comment is out of the way, you should have your own idea of what you want. If I ever come across extra cash I'm finding a set of gold RG's to buy Everyone I know has a mental list of things they would like if they ever get some money

Is you set-up properly tuned and running right? What suspension upgrades do you have? I would look at those areas first.

HPDE and wear items would also be a good investment as others have mentioned

yes, dead serious... i would not drive a boosted Honda with out one. you have alot more places in your R that fuel can leak from that a naturally aspirated ITR. i once had a buddy with a "OT:" Turbo GSR Integra that got a small leak from the FMU, engine bay caught on fire and out of 30 or so people no one had a fire extinguisher. we literally sat there and watched the whole car burn down to the ground. fire department got there and we watched them hit and pry the hood and the front of the car for 20 minutes... it was pretty much welded to the latch, very painful to watch.

so yeah i would get a good sized fire extinguisher for caution measures, not one of those stupid polished ones i see alot of morons mount on their A-Pillars either, that stupid thing is good for putting out a cigarette, not a fuel powered fire!!

how about give us some pictures of your car, along with everything that's done to it inside and out. we'd be able to help out a little more

Gee I really hope that wasn't aimed at me?

I'd at least hope his setup has been tuned properly, especially if he has a doubt in his mind of what to do with a wad of that much cash.

And exactly why is suggesting HPDE's irritating? I can agree that it may sound generic at times but for Gods sake we are talking about a car that is at home on a road course as much as many high performance cars that cost 10's to 100's of thousands of dollars more.

If his car is maintained well and the turbo is in proper tune then I cannot think of anything other than brake pads and a bit less than 55 gallons of high temp brake fluid mind you and a whole weekend at a local roadcourse to really experience what the car is capable of.

If he's interested I also suggest PMing SN ChrisF for information on his FI setup and or tracking it.

Regardless I can't think of anything else I'd like to spend $1,400. on and he Did ask for suggestions and ideas. What a great thing, to learn how to drive the already self proclaimed powerful car as fast as his ***** will allow him to.

I have two in my car connected to different parts of my roll bar.

Safety should never be taken lightly. Buy a roll cage.

Im with this guy^^. I noticed you (HPIMP) tend to take shots at ITRs and ITR owners in general when you post, and you seem to have a general idea that all ITR owners are stuck up elitist jerks who only track their cars and feel that everyone else should. And if they dont, then they dont deserve to drive an ITR. I have no problem if you feel that way, to each his own. But not all of us are like that and shouldnt be generalized as such just because we give an opinion on something and dont know the full story behind the question at hand. If someone comes in here ASKING for opinions, and we GIVE OUR OPINION. I find it irritating that you go and take shots at us for giving OUR OPINION without knowing the full story. If the OP MADE IT KNOWN to begin with that his R was turbo, Im sure he would have received different opinions. So rather than telling us you think our opinions are irritating, and making it clear you feel like you are better than us and our opinions, why not tell the OP to be more clear on his posts as it will get better resulting opinions.

In a perfect world, the owner of a turbo vtec b series car can say, "OK, I'm tuned now, lets go wail on it at the track." But the truth of the matter is, that a turbo honda is always a work in progress. No matter how good your hardware is.

If you drive the car frequently and hard, you will live under the hood of said car. Something is always shaking loose, cracking, or, leaking. @ 10psi I sincerely hope he's got a safely tuned AEM EMS for track use if he's still running stock internals.

stock internals + turbo + stock ECU + piggybacks + road course = KABOOM!

I'll tell you exactly what's irritating about it. Everytime a new ITR owner joins this forum, and, inquires about legitimate bolt-on upgrades (JDM header, hondata IMG, CAI, exhaust, etc.) You guys immediately bark "Pads, fluid, and, track time!" at the guy without offering any useful info, or trial and error testimonials about the available bolt on mods he can do to his car.

HPDE's are a great idea for any performance car owner , not just ITR owners. Life is a learning process, and no one can ever say they've finally "learned" how to drive.

I recently read an old interview with Jackie Stewart in a late 80's car mag, in which he claimed that he never was completely satisfied with his driving, and, felt that he learned something new everytime he was on the track. That's a true champion, no ego just facts.

In the same token, he also said that truly great drivers are "born" and not created. And said that lack of humility is the number one downfall of a naturally talented driver. But even worse in his book than a natural with an inflated ego, were the not-so-talented drivers with inflated ego's.

Needless to say, there are ITR owners around here that act as if they could teach 'ol Jackie a thing or two.

A pure cackle.

Wow, that's a pretty accurate description of more than one member around here. he he

Lets be crystal clear. I don't take shots at ITR owners, I take shots at condescending ******, that just happen to own an ITR and tend to bash other makes (insert bad *** car of your choice here) with a straight face. And/or bash people that choose to not track their R.

Accusing me of thinking I am better than anyone or their opinion just isn't true. I deal with all types of car enthusiasts on a regular basis. And based on the feedback I got at the recent Brooklyn ITR meet, you'd be surprised as to how many people around here agree with the stuff I've said related to this topic.

Too bad you and Anton didn't make it there for some good ol chit chat and beer

H-PIMP speaks troofff!

I basically know exactly what Im going to find in every thread where somebody asks how to mod there R.

With $1400, look into some seats. I personally love my JDM ITR ones, but if you dont drive your car as frequently, some buckets would do good.
