Default question about mopeds/scooters in CA

hey guys, i did a search and read the other scooter threads but didnt find anything directly related to this...

i was wondering if anyone knows the laws regarding mopeds in CA? i see people on them all the time here at school and have been considering getting one. if you check out the link below, though...almost all those mopeds say "gas powered scooter not for use in california". anyone know why? or if thats even correct? because theyre all DOT and EPA approved...

http://www.scooterdepot.us/Res...ndard

also, do you need insurance for scooters? if its relevant, im thinking 150cc. thanks!

All I can contribute is that if it's 50cc or less, you'll need an M2 license. Anything over 50 and you'll need the M1 (or regular) endorsement.

Anything over 50cc's is registered as a "motorcycle" (under 50cc is considered a moped) whether if its a scooter or motorcycle. And yes, you will need insurance. Even if you get a moped, you'll still need insurance but it's dirt cheap.

hm. they're even CARB approved....

dunno. call them and ask?

i think it might be a mistake. it says "gas scooter not for use in california" for everything, including their motorcycles and dirt bikes.
