GSR transmission Question!
I have two gsr transmissions one has a shot third gear (needs new synchos) but the diff bearings, Input shaft bearing, countshaft bearing etc.. are all still in excellent condition.
My second gsr transmission has no problems with the synchos (its shifts great), but has a bad bearing somewhere (dont konw cause its still in car, but my guess from the winding sound is that its the ISB bearing).
My question is can i take the gear set from the tranny with good synchos but bad bearing and put it in the tranny with good bearing but bad synchos? I know the part are obivious interchangable as they are both gsr transmissions, but i would like some advice to whether this would be a good idea.
TIA

Replace the bearings on the transmission with bad bearings with NEW ones and leave the other one alone. Used bearings on moderate to high mileage transmissions will have bearings with a fair amount of wear on them. I don't recommend reusing them.
You can replace the 3rd gear synchro and 3rd gear for something in the $250 to $350 range using new OEM Honda parts. But, chances are that a tranny with that kind of damage will require more than just one synchro and gear. Shift forks, bearings, and other synchros and/or gears may need to be replaced.
Don't junk the tranny with a bad synchro. You can sell it as a core to somebody willing to spend the money and time to fix it. You won't get much out of it, but it's valuable to somebody out there.

Yeah i know i can do my own work on the tranny i was just looking for a cheap alternative to replacing the synchos as i have tranny with all new bearings and the other with all new synchos. And was just trying to get an opinion on if it would be a good idea to combine the two to make a fairly new/low mileage transmission. Thanks for the response but anyone else have some input???

if you know what your doing and know what to look for in determining if a bearing is alright go for it. Sometimes removeing good bearings can damage them so you should be careful with them and use proper tools. If your comfortable with transmissions there is nothing wrong with reusing parts, cause if it fails you can just replace it.
Yeah i have a replacement inputshaft bearing and seal, because i suspect that to be the issue. But the transmission with good bearings but bad synchos i will be leaving the bearings alone and just swapping the gear set from the one with bad bearings to the tranny with good bearings.
Has anyone ever done this??
