I just got this car and the "S" is now always blinking when driving it. The speedometer needle is at zero and sometimes moves back and forth like a lost puppy. I was reffered to the only speedometer place in town, waiting on a quote... Will this clear the blinking "S" or is it something more serious??

Also, could the speedometer be messed up because there was tampering with the actual miles?

It has an oil leak and I bought it knowing I was taking it straight to the shop to get that and a tuneup. But if Tranny problems are in the horizon, I need to stay away from tall buildings.

Any suggestions/ideas??

you confused me a little with that last part but you have a bad speed sensor. If you replace that you should get rid of the "s" light

I mentioned the last part because the blinking "S" does not come on when I start the car but only after it goes thru the very first round of gear changes. Like clock work..... 1 2 3 "S" blinking light on.... Its an automatic BTW

does your car have an aftermarket shifter ****? when i had a 91 SE accord i changed ***** and had to unhook my sport shift feature, and it caused the light to come on also. my solution...........took out the bulb behind the S light. yeah i was that lazy back then. no applause, thank you.

 

It's the original shifter ****. I wish it were only that. Tranny tech said since the speed sensor relays info as to when Misses Tranny should shift gears, ignoring it would be a good way to turn a $40 part replacement into a $1500 tranny nightmare.
