Default Non-VTEC to VTEC

My bro owns a '01 Accord 4-cylinder Non-vtec DX. Does anyone know if it is possible to convert the single cam non-vtec head to a single cam VTEC using a head from a 98+ Accord EX or LX 4-cylinder? Thanks. It's hard to get power with the F23A5 without an entire engine sway (don't have money for it).

Esh. Thats a rare engine you have. I don't know about the head swap, I guess in THEORY it could work, you would need to run the VTEC wires and oil lines. Damn fine question.

I guess you gotta check the cylinder bore spacing, head stud/bolt location and coolant passages...

Yeah, we've been thinking about that... Maybe the pistons and rods would have a clearance problem and a whole new crank, piston, rod setup would be needed... We aren't exactly sure. We're not mechanics...

I sure hope it works... If we can get a new head on the bitch, I'll be able to do twice the mods, its not even funny... The F23A5 is so rare, weird, and wimpy that there aren't many internal mods available... I haven't even found pistons... Which might be a problem considering we might go to Hytech Exhaust for a custom turbo...

If you want the EX motor it isnt as much as you think for the engine. 01GSR got his for around 700 dollars with only 4000 miles on it. Just look around. Doing a head swap will probably cost just as much as the swap. Then again there is always the h22

hey...why do you want vtec if you are putting a turbo on your car...vtec will only inhibit your potential when boosted...stick with the non-vtec if you are going to put a turbo on your motor!

I'm not sure, right now my budget is real low and there is no way I would be able to buy anything major within the next three-five weeks. Sorry.

Misa is a f0cking genious. Run over to your local friendly honda dealer and axe them to see the head gaskets to the VTEC and Non-VTEC engines. I dunno where you live but the dealership I work at would be happy to help.
