88 Civic hatchback std door speaker install help
Hey first post here, I just bought this car a few weeks ago and just istalled a headunit and was looking at the speaker locations. They call for 6.5", yet the ones I bought were too deep and hit the window when rolled down. I went to check on some that were not as deep and was told by the Circuit City guys that the only ones that may fit were these junky Jensen's that I wouldn't put anywhere. He then told me that I would have to get 5 1/4" and uses some bracing to make it fit. Well I bought a set of Polk DB 5 1/4" speakers and he gave me some things to "brace" it. These speakers are too deep as well and the only way I can get them to fit is by ghetto rigging with washers to bring it forward. If I have to space these smaller speakers, why not go with the proper size for higher quality sound? Just wondering what you have done for yours and any ideas. I tried searching, but maybe I am doing it incorrectly as I didn't get more than 30 results.
I installed 6.5 in my buddies 91 hatch. I used the spacers made specifically for Honda speaker openings. They are easy to find. Check out a local shop and they should have some laying around.
Thank you! That was definitely a quick response. I was thinking of making a spacer out of MDF or something similar, but if there is already a product that takes the work out of it then I am sold. I will look around the audio store tomorrow or later this week. I looked around online, but came up empty handed.
