Default cabin filters on 5th gen

I need to replace the cabin filters on my 01 but cant seem to find an easy way to get them out. I took down the glove box and got the cover off of the filters but cant get them out. There is a bar in the way that looks as if it part of the dash, and cant be removed. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

The bar must be cut in order to replace the filter. This was a big boo boo by Honda.

Yes, you have to cut that plastic bar... don't worry, everything will install back properly. There are 2 filters and they aren't cheap either.
