Default aftermarket "high intensity" light bulbs

SO.. cops tell me that if I install HID on my EF, I will get a ticket because it is not original equipment.

I want to know about those $50 light bulbs you can buy for your halogen headlights- are they worth the cost? Will they make the light more powerful, or are they just a cosmetic color change to resemble HID?

nah it's not worth it because the 50 dollars light bullbs will always burn out after about a month

The only light bulbs I've had that was close to HID were the silverstars. They were pretty bright but they did burn out kind of soon. I've heard really good things about PIAA bulbs.

yeah, i had silverstars on my old teg, and they weren't all that great. my personal opinion is that they were a waste of money.

a great idea! will any clip work, or do you need the EF clips?

you dont need new clips! the low beam clip fit fine as long as you grind out the little channel inside the base of the bulb (l '' l) the base looks like this just grind the two little plastic things in between the prongs

I read that write up and the pic at the end honestly doesn't do it justice. I can't tell the difference. the same amount of grass is lit up. Crappy example IMO. We all know the difference betweenour brights and normal headlights, so I know it's going to be much brighter anyways. Isn't ths illegal though?

Also, what happens when you put your brights on? Doesn't it just look the same? I think maybe buying some fog lights would help. Also, can anyone with PIAA blubs chime in? I was thinking of getting some.

PIAA's are expensive but well worth it. And I also think that silverstars are WAY better then OEM. Thats what im running now. But I plan on getting some Lexus H.I.D's in the near future.

the 9005 conversion doesn't turn your low beams into a high beam, just makes it hella brighter, doesn't blind people or shoot out a greater distance, but very easy and cheap mod. But has anyone used an aftermarket light bulb for the 9005 conversion? Is it even brighter?

Sylvania osrams are the brightest halogen bulbs you can get.

i did the high beam bulbs in the low beam spot. that was cool til i wrecked my car.. and now i have an aftermarket 8000k hid kit... here are a few pix.. with projectors first then w/o.. stock housing is better for the bulbs i hear.. + more visibility..
and as far as cops go.. ive driven by a bunch of state troopers and everyone else.. just looks like an is300 or 300z...

frankly, I think you'd have a better time with cops if you put in plug n play HID kit with reasonable color temp..like 4300k

something like 6000+ would attract unwanted attention

you not supposed to use hid in fluted lenses, it messes up how the light is dispersed and blinds oncoming traffic. there are other posts on this in archive. check out my previous post on this page. the HIR bulbs are only like 30 each, about the same as silverstars. i have silverstars and they are okay, but not worth the money in my opinon. if you decide to use PIAA or a higher wattage bulb, you have to worry about frying your wiring, fire, etc.

yeah its pretty bad,,alot of glare and hotspots,,youd be better off with stock 9005,9006 regular bulbs,,i mean hids are good but when not done right all you get is glare, hotspots, and tickets from the popo look into doing a oem retrofit since you got the right headlight housings already
