Step 1: Take the MSF
Step 2: Buy a service manual of some sort for your motorcycle
Step 3: Buy gear
Step 4: Come back to HT to a resounding hurrah and congrats...but not until after 1-3.
As for getting the bike to run, if it's been sitting for ten years, you'll probably have a TON of rust to clean out of the carbs, fuel line, and gas tank. You'll need a new battery and DEFINITELY new tires and brake pads (or shoes if they're not disc brakes). Change out all the old fluids for new stuff.

don't do any of that stuff yet.
Item number 1 is get the bike running. First thing is see if the motor is locked up. Im assuming your battery is dead after sitting for 10 years. Either buy a new one or hook your bike up to a car battery via jumper cables(don't run the car as the alternator will put out more amps than you want) try to turn over the engine. Make sure there is oil in it. If it turns over then great if it does nothing try to turn it over by hand. Pull off the motors left side(i think left) cover and try to turn it over that way. It helps if you pull the spark plugs and put a tiny bit of oil in each cylinder. If it turns over then great. Next thing is pull the carbs and clean them obviously. Use gumout and compressed air to clean them (2 important things wear some kind of glasses because carb cleaner in the eyes sucks and make sure not to soak rubber peices in carb cleaner because it will eat them) Pull off the float bowls and clean out all the gunk. Make sure the floats can move freely, take them off and make sure the float needles are pointy and clean as well as the seat for them. Clean out all the jets and the diaphram. Be especially careful with the diaphram as they are very expensive to replace. There are many carb rebuild kits available on the web if you need help pm me and ill post some links. Next, Check the tank for internal rust and junk. You can buy a tank sealer kit from por15 that will fix that or take it to a radiator shop and they will fix it for you. Don't use kreem, I repeat do not use kreem unless you plan to sell the bike in a year.
If the bike sat with gas in it then change your fuel lines. Make sure the petcock is operational. After all of that change the fluids put everything back together and try to start it. You may have electrical problems if you had to turn it over by hand. After you get it running synch the carbs, new tires, and some other stuff you should be on the road.
Then do the msf and all that stuff.

if the kickstart will move then the motor is not locked up which is wonderful. It will be hard because it has sat for so long. Make sure you check the oil. I cant stress this enough because you don't want to work on something just to have it blow in your face because you missed something simple. Take off the carbs and clean them now along with the gas tank and new fuel lines.
It would be alot easier just to order a new ignition of ebay with keys than try to get them from honda.

hahaha... so the forks are useless??? or what?? so do i need new forks.. i just want it running... basically to teach me how to ride maybe get me to school n back
I would remove spark plugs and put some lightweight oil in and let sit for a while. Crank it over a few time with the plugs out to help lube the walls. Have the carbs rebuilt. Have the forks rebuilt or cleaned and seals and oil and all the rusty stuff replaced...eh, just have them rebuilt. Replace the chain. Check the rear shocks and replace if there is no life left. Drain the gas tank and inspect. If not leaking, rinse with new stuff and flush. Put a new filter in and maybe a petcock if that is gunked up beyond cleaning. Drain and replace oil and oil filter. Get a new battery and plugs and see if she starts.
If she does, you can come help me with the Magna.

On my bike, there is a code on the bottom of the ignition (you have to take it off in order to see). Take that to Honda and they can cut you a key.

the top part of the fork... the one that slides inside of the other needs to be dead smooth. The oil seal rides on the tube and I believe if the tube is badly pitted it will break the seal if its not already. Bottom part should be fine, probably just needs a new oil seal. You can pick those up on ebay for pretty cheap.
