Default CEl 41 wont go away

Alirght, ive got a d16y8, switched to obd1 and its throwing a cel of 41, o2 sensor heater. I went the cheap way and got one of the universal 4 wire o2 sensors, hooked it up and still showing the coded. i just put a brand new denso in this morning, i took the - termial off the battery and let it sit for about an hour while i did some other stuff ( i was told this would reset the ecu) and its still throwing the code. what do i need to do to get rid of it?
