race bucket seat tech: please help (yes i searched)
ok ive had a lot of experienced people tell me to invest in a non reclinable race bucket/harness combo. ive already been reading up on the subject and how it really improves driver to car correlation due to planting u in the seat. (i could def feel myself rolling around in the seat at willow).
ive also been told a thousand times "if u want a race seat..dont get reclinable..not enough support..might as well get a del sol or integ".
i was wondering whats seats u guys prefer and have had good experience with. im about 5'4 145 lbs. i was looking at the sparco sprint, corbeau forza, etc etc.
have any of u fabbed up brackets that allow u to use your oem seat belts while on the street to the grocery store and whatnot.a base model eg doesnt have power luxuries and ****. so reaching over to roll down windows(lol), reaching in the backseats..etc etc. or is this is just
??i was told if i dont wanna be in a harness non stop then just either get a seat that u only use at events( kinda not into this idea)..or get a gsr/usdm itr or del sol seats..and use good harness with those as a balance of needs. i never see those jdm recaros sold in singles, or for good prices for that matter, so thats out of the question.
what do u guys recommend.

I love my Corbeau Targa RS. It retains the factory seat belts. I've used it at many at autoxs, VIR, and i daily drive the car still. It is just as comfortable (uncomfortable?
) as my stock Accord seat was.

If your car is not street-driven, please disregard most of the following message.
Please do not use a racing seat/harness combo in a street car. Specifically, please do not use a harness in a street car without any sort of rollover protection (rollbar is better than rollcage for this application, unless you commute in a helmet). For one thing: aftermarket belts are illegal in some states. For another thing, that harness will pin you in that non-flexible, non-reclining seat and keep you from ducking down or moving around in case of a rollover or other impact. That means your head will take a hit from the roof coming down in a rollover, or your head/neck will take all the "give" in a side impact...
Long story short, if you're going to use a racing seat without rollover protection - please use stock seatbelts so you can still move around if necessary. Or, preferrably, stay with stock seats (or reclining, less-bucketed aftermarket ones) so you aren't pinned into an immovable racing bucket seat when something happens.
FWIW, I've used a Corbeau Forza II seat on their bracket (with sliders) in conjunction with Sabelt 5-point 3" racing harnesses and an Autopower rollbar, and really appreciated how much less it lets me slide around during hard cornering on a racetrack. On the street it's uncomfortable as hell during long trips (no lumbar support), so I put the stock seat back in (and don't use those harnesses of course).
PS- I'm not trying to preach, just trying to keep people from getting hurt...
Hope that helps,
Jon

Does anyone have experience with the Corbeau Carreras? I understand the benifits of a full bucket, but the car is a daily driver, and my commute is 70+ miles a day, so I'm not ready to go there yet. Yes, the car would have a 4pt bar and a harness, but will also reatain stock belts for daily driving.

The Carrera is a very comfortable seat from what I've seen, but I question the long-term durability of Corbeaus in general. That's because my Forza II was in a daily driver for ~7 months and not only faded slightly, but also started to "pill" especially on the thigh cushion and left (driver door) side from all the ingress/egress. Perhaps their reclining seats are built more strongly, to take that sort of use/abuse... and their fixed-back race buckets are only built for part-time duty? I sure hope so, otherwise their Carreras would be trashed in a year or two of daily use based on what I saw with my Forza II...
BTW, you might want to talk to Eric or Nick at Rosen Autosport, 804-421-9222. They sell Corbeaus, and can most likely give you a whole lot of unbiased info.
Hope that helps,
Jon
