i have searched and so far i have gotten that i should spray it with simple green, let it sit, and then wash it off with water. i also read that i should cover some stuff. can anybody help me by telling me the procedure to the whole thing and what to cover? also how long i should let the simple green sit for? i live in orange county if that matters at all. thanks a lot everyone!
i mixed my bottle of simple green with 50% water, and i just spray where it need to be cleaned and wipe it off. Works great, just watch clips on your harness

I think there is a thread circulating in that forum on this topic.
I cover the dizzy and intake. And never directly spray anything electrical. Dont go crazy with the water, only spray enough to get the soap off.

I've read on detailing sites that Simple Green is not kind to aluminum. I would discourage using it under the hood. I use Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner, purchased at Auto Zone. I dilute it 4:1 (water:APC) into a spray bottle.
Cover the distributor and alternator (and air filter if exposed) with cellophane or other means. Before spraying, it helps to have the engine warm, but not hot; this helps with the degreasing. Spray liberally all over the engine bay; the 4:1 will not harm the painted surfaces. If it's pretty dirty, you might want to use a soft bristle brush to work on soiled areas. Let it sit for about 5 minutes, then hose down. If using a spray nozzle on the hose, set to a light stream.
Follow up with a vinyl/rubber cleaner/protectant such as Meguiar's #40 on rubber & plastic if you want to condition your hoses or put a shine on the airbox, etc. It's not like Armor All, which ultimately dries out whatever you spray it on.

I use Simple Green every time. Cover your dizzy and air filter(if you run an exposed filter), wet down the engine bay thoroughly(a warm engine will make it easier for the grease to be removed, remember warm, NOT HOT), spray Simple Green thoroughout the bay, I mean everywhere. Let it sit for about a minute or two, scrub down any stubborn grease areas, then spray off thoroughly.
WOOLAH, clean engine.
EDIT: Doh!! just noticed pretty much the same post above. reading pwns me
