what is that bracket looking piece for in the throttle body?
89 civic dx with stock 1.5L and cai. The question. in the top of the throttle body there is a bracket piece that is screwed onto the top. what the hell is it for? it sits perpendicular to the intake pipe so it blocks airflow. would it serve my cai better if i removed it? and after the meshed screen there is a gold disc, what is that? it didn't move when i cranked up the throttle? any thing else i can do to my throttle body to improve air flow?
thanks alot! just bought my civic, first one!

It really is just blocking the airflow. You can take it out and it won't hurt anything but I don't think you are going to gain much either. The DX motor does not respond well to bolt on mods since it only uses two fuel injector. My advice is to do the mpfi swap so you are running 4 fuel injectors or just swap motors completely.
I'm gonna agree with 91civic, I have the DPFI motor and did an intake (home made), exhaust, and test pipe and it made no difference whatsoever in power. the throttle body itself is so small it bottlenecks the whole system. So it's worthless to try to mod without at least switching to MPFI. As for the bracket, it's there to make the intake quieter, it can come out. I beleive the "gold disc" you're refering to is the choke, it needs to stay.
