how to get rear control arms off?
the bolt closest to the wheels has seized inside of the metal rod inside the bushing and I can't get it out. The bolt holding the bottom of the shock has done the same thing. How do I get these bolts out? Hacksaw?
Airtools.
Or...if you dont have access...maybe a breaker bar.
Or...if you dont have access to that, a strong pipe...the poor man's breaker bar.

I think he means that the bolt is seized in the bushing sleeve.....
You have no other choice than cutting those bolt and replacing the bushings...and the bolts...of course!

if you can get a air drill or any good strong drill and a bunch of gear oil to dip the drill bit in(keeps the bit cool and prolongs life and makes cutting easier on the bit). start with a small bit and work your way up in drill bit size. and don't drill full speed run the drill at 1/2 speed or slower. i know, it happened to me also
I just did a set of springs and bushings last night on a hatchback that had the same problem. Go to your local parts store and ask them for the best penetrating lube they sell. spray the **** out of the area where the bolt is siexed in the sleeve. then wait about 30 mins, then beat the **** out of it with a hammer while trying to work it back and fourth with a wrench, It worked for me, Better to try this first before you bust out the drill and the hacksaw.

yeah, the bolt is siezed in the bushing sleeve. I have already tried penetrating oil. Any other ideas? I am ready to bust out the hacksaw.

Damn road salt!!!!!
If you don't have any soft rubber parts too nearby, you can try a "hot-cold" treatment

Be patient, the car I was working on came from up north and the rust is terrible, man I'm glad it doesn't snow here.
After the oil has set in a while, beating it with the hammer is the key. just imagine its bin laden's face on the end of the bolt, LOL hope I didn't offend anyone
Once you lose your patience and start hacking away, you can sometimes cause yourself a heap of trouble, replacing bolts, and whatever else gets cut in the process.
If that doesn't work, call Ms. Cleo she might be able to help ya darlin.
another joke I hope didn't offend anyone

Around these parts, rust is a way of life, and there's no avoiding it. Even after cutting the bolts, they still won't come out of the metal. The best way to get them out is to use an electric grinder with a metal cut off wheel. Usually, once the metal housing breaks loose of the rubber, there's no way those things will come out, they're seized in there for life!
bought an angle grinder with a metal cutting disk and cut them out....just have to get the old bushings pushed out and new ones put in. thanks for the info.
You can cut the old bushings out with a hacksaw, or a sawzall, and use polyurethane bushings (actually cheaper than factory) wich you would just push in by hand.
PB blaster works real good. its the best i've ever used other than kano oil which is difficult to find. either of them makes liquid wrench and wd-40 look like water.
