i've got a 2002 and I don't have 2nd gear grind issues. I bought mine in March. However, I've read that if you change to a short shifter, the grind is barely noticeable.

I believe he is talking about the dual valvesprings in the early model 02's. Chances are that it does not have them unless it is a very early model 02.

Even so I have never seen any problems w/ them. My car is an 02 and has been revved to **** w/ no problems.

Worry more about the second gear grind. Definately take it for a test drive, rev first gear all the way out and nail second. You don't want to have to pay for new syncros out of pocket.

yes, almost all the 02's had a grinding in second gear. There is a notice up to have it fixed via recall, but only if the tech can recreate the problem. Which almost enver happens. I've taken my 03 in multiple times for its 3rd gear grinding.

They fixed 2nd gear grind in the 03, still notchy at times, but 3rd is now grinding like mad.

Over all, I still love my car.

This is temporary. It has something to do with the 5th and 6th gears it seems. In base models some syncromesh tranny fluid cleared up the grind, but it would still happen from time to time.

I've tried short shifters, new bushings, new clutch/flywheel, and it still happens. Till I redo my gearing I don't think it'll stop.
