I searched and couldn't find the write-up i saw again on how to do this. I'm wanting to throw a VTEC head on my STD and don't feel like messing with converting to OBD1, so i plan just locking it into high cam.

 

That is a bad idea. Don't do it.

This will increase your lift and duration and your ECU wil stil only give it enough fuel for the stock fuel mapping.

manual VTEC switches are equally useless.

Did you not read why i'm doing this? I'm running it on an OBD0 ECU, it doesn't have fuel maps for it anyway, as long as it doesn't freak out the ECU and cause the air/fuel to oscolate, i'll be happy.

VTEC is Variable Valve Timing and Electronic Lift Control.
The reason why it is effective is because it is variable, at high rpm's the secondary cam basically helps the engine breath in a way that is effective for high rpm's not for all rpm's.
Also, there are other issues to consider when running VTEC on a non-VTEC ECU, such as the fact that more oil/fuel is needed in VTEC. Not compensating for this will lead to problems.

STDS are just bad im no doctor but from what i hear they are horrible.

Also you wont have any oil pressure to build up your vtec turnover and would basically be pointless. Wats the point of vtec then, your basically trying to eliminate it with that idea.

 

Chances are you'll lean it out.

 

it will def brake some ****. font do it. car is designed to run bigger valve clearances during low cam and smaller high cam. i think your gonna go valve slap happy and brake ****,

ps. its your car, take the head apart weld interlock pin for the rockers and have fun.
