Default H22A....need help on this engine swap

i posted earlier but my thread got deleted due to it being in all caps...hmm..

anyways...as i said....my engine arrived and the cam gears werent alligned. the one on the left was facing northwest and the one on the right was facing east. i should run a compression test to get this figured out right? as to whether or not any of my valves are bent. i pray that they arent.

and another thing. my mech said that it could most probably be that im not getting spark because the VTEC pressure switch is missing and not wired up. i just ordered the pressure switch from Honda...and im going to get it wired up tomorrow. does anyone think it could be this?

and one more thing. on another forum..one person told me that a common problem with the H22A swap is the distributor. i did not swap my distributor on the H22A for my H23 one. and he said that the common problem is there as to why there is no spark. anyone care to verify this?

thanks in advance

1. remove a spark plug , it doesn't matter which one.
2. re-attach it to its spark plug wire.
3. have a friend crank over the motor (you can wear a latex glove and hold the spark plug wire, but do not set the plug back on the motor os car!).

now watch carefully and you should see the spark plug fire an electric current, and you should smell/see the gas/air mixture from the open spark plug hole. i have done this a couple times and it will not harm your motor. if you don't see spark, your ignition system is messed up, if you don't see/smell gas then your not getting fuel. go from there.

The JDM distributor has internal coil...your H23 has external coil...I'm not for sure but someone can confirm this but see if you can use your H23 distributor fits on the H22...the other way is convert your external coil to internal coil (your JDM dizzy) ...search for "internal external coil" I'm sure that's your problem...and your vtec switch without it your motor still runs...just no vtec.

if you got a mechanic doing your swap why is it so hard?
since you had an h23 it should be a breeze. bolt the h22 in, put your original harness and distributor on, add 3 wires for vtec and fire it up.

ok....thats wat i thought it should be as well...shouldve been a breeze....

my mech didnt swap the internal coil for my H23 one though...and im thinking that is the major problem why there isnt any spark now...

thanks for the info...i will be getting my mech to do the swap tomorrow.

ok guys....

i went back to my mech today...and told him to switch the distributor from my previous INTERNAL H22A one...to the EXTERNAL one of my H23....and he told me he had already done that from the start.

OMG....and we still didnt have spark. is this due to the H22A using an internal distributor?? im not sure..

so i had him change the distributor back to my H22A INTERNAL one...to try it out. I bought a guide online. and in order to switch from the external to the internal. you have to splice the yellow and black/yellow wire together. so i had him do that.

and i bought a 2000 Civic SI Internal distributor cap to work with the H22A internal distributor...as was specified by the guide. it fit on perfect.

we plugged everything in and STILL there was no spark. i am totally frustrated at this point.

using my H23 distributor = no spark

using the H22A internal distributor = no spark

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

i hear that the original H22A distributor is usually faulty and i should change it. so right now. my next move is to change the H22A distributor and get another one. but i would need an internal one since the wires are already spliced together.

WHICH INTERNAL distributor fits the H22A? i heard its one from an Accord

when using the jdm h22a internal dizzy on your car you havta wire in in correct cant just hook it up normal and it work. you havta take the yellow wire on the external harness and splice that into the black/yellow on the internal dizzy.

yea i already did that wiring...the guide said to splice the yellow and black/yellow wire on the connector that was originally going into the H23 distributor....ive done that but there is still no spark. so i am assuming that is it....

but that was the wire to the left of the distributor and it was supposed to be plugged into the component next to the external distributor...where u plug in the wire running out of it...

which wires would u then splice then?

are u talking about the ones that lead straight into the distributor...?

the plug on the internal distributor has a black/yellow and blue (or green) wire on it...

the plug on the harness has a yellow and blue (or green) wire on that...

are u talking about splicing THOSE 2 wires?

^^^ That would be important and here's a link to the info...https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1500483
Are you positive that you are not getting spark? Battery in good shape? Did you check all your grounds?

hehe forgot the link...

As stated in your other thread: Go back and put the H23a1 distributor back on, plug it up normally (remove the splice and wire them regularly), hook up the external coil and start it up.

NO DICE...just did that today and there was still no spark coming out....there wasnt even spark coming from the external distributor....the one to the left of the H23 distributor....

i really dont know why there isnt any spark. because technically...everything should fire up....my mech ran power tests and everything has power running to it so its not a power problem. he check all the fuses so it isnt that as well....

WHAT ELSE COULD BE THE PROBLEM?!?!? im seriously so frustrated with this engine swap....the most simple thing isnt working...the distributor....and the distributor is definately not dead....so thats not the problem
