Default Honda motor oil vs Sytec motor oil

I recently got a 99 Typer R engine, I wanted to use Sytec motor oil, some guy told me not to. Somebody nows the difference between honda motor oil and Syntec?? Also I noticed that this engine burn like a quart of oil every 2500 miles, I checked and is good on compression, plus the engine runs strong. Thanks.

Hmm, I am sure no one posted because the obvious answer to your question is: SEARCH.

Motor oil topic has been extensively discussed.

It is all based on preference. Mobil1 Synthetic is a popular choice. I personal use Redline because it seems to burn less than Mobil1. I would stick to one of those choices if I were you.

Was it from another country? No Type R's were sold in the United States in the '99 model year.

Syntec is Castrol's brand name for their full synthetic motor oil. I don't know if Honda sells conventional motor oil or synthetic motor oil (or both) under their brand name. Synthetic oil is a good idea, because it's more resistant to breakdown when it gets hot, and it flows better when cold; the only downside is price.

I use synthetic in all my cars - usually Mobil 1, but I sometimes use Pennzoil Platinum (their full synthetic) when they have a smokin' deal on it.

Right now you'll find 5-quart jugs of Mobil 1 at Wal-Mart for $21.xx, 5-quart jugs of Pennzoil Platinum there for $18.xx. (Yes, that's less per quart than the six-packs of Mobil 1 at Sam's Club or Costco, which are around $28.)

That's totally normal. In fact, with only one quart for 2500 miles, it's better than a lot of normal ITR engines.

I used some Valvoline crap the last time I changed my oil and the R drinks it and spits it out faster than any other stuff I've used. I had it lying around for my accord but I figuered I'd try it in the R. Going back to Mobil1 this weekend

I just purchase 3 cases of Mobil 1 from Costco for $28 each. Back to Costco for a refund I'll go.

I used to use mobil 1 synthetic 5w30

i have now switched to castrol GERMAN SYNTEC synthetic 0w30 - which is only available at autozone here in GA.....

The castrol german syntec I don't burn between oil changes - whereas I used to burn 1/2 a qt between changes with the mobil 1 synthetic.....

Honda motor oil is just regular Mobil oil. Nothing special.
