Default Should I fix my Si (z6) tranny?

Right now Imrunning a dx trans on my Z6. The car is quick, but 70 in second gear is only fun sometimes.

Im pretty sure what is broke in the si trans is the differential or FD, could I take the one from the dx tranny and swap it into the Si one?

The final drive is different from the DX to Si Tranny..

Also i *think* the si tranny has larger bearings...

If you have a good working tranny, why would you take it apart and take a chance of making a broken one work.

$400 tops.. will get you another Si tranny

The first thing you should do is pop open the broken tranny and figure out exactly what is broken. From there, you can make a better informed decision about what to do. Were you using a stock or aftermarket FD in the Si tranny? One of the H4 racers here had an SRR 4.9 explode in his Si tranny. That was part of that well-documented failure scenario that SRR has supposedly fixed in their new products that will be available this summer. I don't think I've ever heard of a stock FD failing, but I guess you never know.

Pretty easy to find for 200 bucks. I didn't pay much for the one in my garage.
Open up your Si tranny, and see whats going on in there so that you can make a more educated guess. (or actually diagnose the issue.)

Axles were fine. it was the internals, which is surprsising since they are stock d series axles.
