Default Quality, Reliable Car Alarms?

Hey everyone, I am going to be purchasing an alarm for my Civic soon and I was wondering if anyone knew of any reasonably priced (under $500) alarms that worked very well and that were reliable. Anyone with personal experiences please share. I would like a system with a pager also. Thanx for your help!

Also if theres anyone in CT that has or knows of a reliable shop that installs them that would be helpful too. Thanx again!

I have a clifford matrix alarm that comes with a nice little carbon-fiber pager and it works great. You can adjust the sensitivity of the alarm with the pager itself.

I only paid $350 for this alarm. You should stick with Viper or Clifford. They're both manufactured by DEI and are very reliable. Ever since I got my alarm I havent been looking out the window to check on my car much lately

Compustar is another good manufacturer.

90% of the alarms that I see "fail" are due to install error.

You're better off spending your time looking for a reputable installer.

edit: where are you located in CT?

Thanx for the feedback guys. Keep it coming! I am in New Britain, and if your familiar with the area you know why I want an alarm. I had a friend who had Compustar on his Type-R, and it got ganked right out of his driveway. He didn't install it so I don't know why it failed.

Check out these DEI alarms offered on this website. That's if you can install it yourself or know someone personally that can do it.

The alarm was probably good, but the thieves were better.

Theft is rediculous in CT. I'm from New Haven BTW.

There are several reputable installers on the Pike, I'll get back to you with a couple of suggestions.

IMO, it doesnt make that much of a difference on what alarm you buy. anything DEI is a quality, affordable, reliable alarm. its all in the install. if all the wires are exposed, and the alarm brain is secured to your steering column, you can buy the most expensive alarm on the market, and it wont do any better than a $30 alarm.

i bought my DEI alarm on ebay for $35 shipped brand new, just open box. had a friend that is a professional and certified installer, help me with it. you would never know that i have an alarm by looking under the dash or under the hood. plus, add some kill switches. it hasnt been said yet, but good car security is all in layers. and all you can do is hope to slow them down enough, they will give up. they want it bad enough, they will take it.

good luck.
