Need a Diagnosis
Here's the problem. Every time I park my car (or slightly turn my steering wheel, I hear a squeek come from my front wheel). The noise sounds like an old door hinge that needs oil or something. The squeek stays on as long as I have the wheels turning (left or right). Any know what the problem may be (if I ignore it, will I be hating myself later?) This is for a 2000 RL...but I figure this could be for any car.
Well if i understand what you explained correctly it seems like the noise is happening when you hold your steering wheel all the way one direction... If that is the case that would have something to do with the powersteering system. I would first start by checking the fluid level of your power steering fluid and adding as needed. If that looks to be ok i would then check the belt that is on the power steering pump. Check for signs of wear and to see if the belt may be loose.
Actually, the noise starts anytime I try to turn the wheel. It doesn't necesarry happens when I cut it all the way to the right or left. It happens when I turn or add the slightest pressure to the wheels.
The power steering resivior(Where you would add fluid) also contains a filter. If this filter becomes restricted the pump will strain and cause a harsh noise. Also if the rack tension is to tight this can cause the problem.
