i just called in to bring my lude for service and when i told the guy i want synthetic he said it's not needed for honda because it will make no difference at all. so i said ok and went with regular oil. is he right?
i also asked how much it would be to get mudflaps installed and he quoted me $145 CAD. is that a ripoff or what..?

In my opinion, yes synthetic oil makes a difference, it will increase the longevity of your motor. I swear by Mobil 1.

Check http://www.handaaccessories.com/ for the mudflaps. But mudflaps are kinda gross looking so don't check there

i want the mudflaps not for the looks but for the use. it rains here alot and my doors always have tons of dirt on them from the front tires and i think mudflaps would fix that problem. what do u think..?

The guy sounds like the traditional high school drop out that picked up a job as a no brain mechanic. Synthetic oil has several characteristics that no other traditional motor oil has.

-Lower Volatility (tendency of an oil to break down)
-Lower friction which equivalates to lower engine temp, increased hp (minimal).
-Less prone to coking, varnishing, and sludge build up.
-It faciliates engine startup and minimizes friction and wear at extremely low ambient temps.
-Maintains viscosity (shear stable).
-Remember, synthetic give you the option of changing the oil at a longer interval. It still must be done every 3000 miles. That's my personal change point anyway.

There are plently more characteristics that make synthetic better, but I think you get the idea. Keep in mind if your just putting around town and never really lay on your car a lot , synthetic isn't going to offer an advantage. It just ads extra protection for those of us who like to drive in the "vtec zone" a lot.

Recommended oil; Castrol Syntec (Good ****!)
