signs of having bent valves?
i have a d16z6 motor that im going to do a mini-me swap with. the guy i got the motor from broke the timing belt so what im asking is how can i tell if it has bent valves? are there any signs? i have the head off now and im not sure what to look for. i can take some pics of the head if it will help.
you may not be able to tell by just looking - take the camshaft out and with combustion chamber side down, pour water into the intake and exhaust ports and see if any of it runs out around the head of the valves
okay ill try that. on the bottom of the head two valves on cylinder 2 and 3 are open two exhaust and two itntake. is that normal?

With the camshaft installed, yes.
With the camshaft installed, yes.
you could also take the cams out place a light shinning into the combustion chamber turn the lights out, and look into the exhuast ports and intake ports a chamber at a time. A head with 60 plus thousand miles will usally not show any light.
with camshaft and lifter taken off hold the head upside down to where u see all the valves sitting flat and seated pour water on to it and it should not leak.
