I was checking out carpoint.com and I compiled a list of different weights for the different R years in the US, how accurate is this?

97R= 2600
98R= 2577
00R= 2595
01R= 2639

 

They're directionally correct (not spot on), but close enough IMO.

It's odd to me that the 97 weighed more than the 98 and 00 considering the 98 had the rear wiper added and the 00 had A/C which is at least 40 extra pounds. But who really cares, in the gran scheme of things? You can always weigh your own car and figure out none of those are that meaningful. Mine weighed 2492. I know it's not "curb weight" but a much more useable number in my mind.

 

Are you saying that "curb weight" is in reality heavier than actual weight? It would seem the opposite to me.. added driver, gas, etc..

Whtat was the difference from 00 to 01?

 

Shouldn't be much so I don't know why there's a weight difference...

 

Any specs I have seen for a 2000 Type-R list 2639 as the weight. There should be no weight difference between 2000 and 2001 Type-Rs. Don't know about 1997/1998 weight differences.

 

Curb weight includes full fluids but no occupants.

Actual weight may have a less than full gas tank but has whatever crap you put in your car, as well as anyone who's in your car when you weigh it.

 

According to all the literature that came out in 1997 with the 1997, the car weighed in at 2560. That was off the showroom floor, some weigh more with A/C as an option. The 1998 was shown as the 2600 lb model.

What do the 00-01 R's have that increase the weight by 39 lbs?

The 1998 @ 2600, is that with or w/o AC? I thought AC was standard in 98 but the chick I bought my R from told me she had to pay extra for it.

 

Every weight is going to be different due to many factors...I'ts not an exact science unless all the cars were weighed on the same scale, with absolutely no fluids in them , directly from the factory..I think the 97 weighed a little less from the factory, but who knows....

 

Dealer Installed Option in 1998.

 

A/C was optional in '98, standard in '00-01.

Rear wiper was optional in '97, standard in '97-01.

Floor mats probably add a little weight for '01. They're much lighter than the '97-00 mats, but since the early ones were optional, they aren't counted in the curb weight statistics.

 

no a/c standard in canada for 2001...which i feel is a good thing!
