Default b16a2 short block for $250 good?

from photos it looks like it's in very good shape.
i can get for about $250..... no rods or pistons or sensors....
It's basically the bare block, crank, oil pan, windage tray, pickup, and oil pump.
I'm looking to do a buildup a part at a time as money permits.
(actually i do vinyl graphics for my car cash).
looking to put in forged rods and pistons.... and a worked head.
or should i go with a different block?

looking for advice on a game plan, and if this block would be a good start.

thanks,
mars

If you want to go with

mild port and polish and valves and spring...skunk2 or juns

get the block bored and honed...$200-$300

jun stage 3 cams skunk two cam gears

JE pistons rods...maybe even a stroker kit to a 1.8...

and a gsr or type r with lsd...

Is it actually a B16A2 block from a 99-00 civic si? Or are you doing what everyone else does and just call a second gen B16A a B16A2? i paid $350 for a complete 2000 "B16A2" with everything including timing belt and mount.

Maybe you should do some more research about Honda motors before you buy anything. I'm not being a *****, but if you don't know that a D series tranny will not bolt to B series motors, then this guy could be taking you for a ride.............

<--- JV, who does'nt want to see this guy get ripped off...........

hey, honestly I dont know tons about the stuff...
that's why i'm here and that's why i'm asking and that's why i want to do a buildup over the course of a year.

i like to do everything myself and learn as i go.

the block is from a 2000 and has 5K on it he says.

the reason i ask about the tranny, is because i was thinking get the block together with a head and put it in temp. with a shitty tranny till i could get a good one.

if i do get it... what head should i use and how big should i bore it.... or should i?

so if im being stupid... just tell me, my feelings won't get hurt...
just tell me why im being stupid

everyone is going to say something different because its all preference. i say keep the block the way it is, get some standard bore ctr pistons and slap them in. with only 5k miles, the hone should still be intact from honda and you should have no problems with the rings sealing. but if you really want to spend some big bucks on this block, get it resleeved to 84mm, get some 11.5:1 compression pistons, a good flowing b16a head and you will have a pretty good set up. or, if you want to keep it all honda parts, get a b17a crank and rods, throw some ctr pistons on that, you will have a 1.7 liter with 11.4:1 compression. and get an itr tranny or b16a hydro tranny, assuming you have a hydro clutch car.

http://unfun.net/honda/engine/shortblock/

there's pics of it.

i'm trying to go for something i can build up i can put 300 - 400 $ a month and get the thing strong after a year or so.
kindof want to start from scratch so i can learn every aspect of it.

DONOT want to buy a swap or have a shop put an engine in for me.
DO want to build something up from scratch so that i can do anything i want myself later and be able to help other people out and understand it from experience.

200who NA on a 1.6 isnt impossible, but its not the easiet to do. requieres lots of tuning, and some big cams. if you want that much power, start off with an LS block at least, they can be had for the same price
