"Shortblock" and "longblock" are general engine terms. A "shortblock" includes the cylinder block and all of its internals (crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, etc.); sometimes referred to as "the bottom end" of the engine. A "longblock" is a complete engine assembly including the shortblock and the cylinder head with its internals (valvetrain, cams, etc.).

It actually has nothing to do with the physical dimensions of the block. You're thinking of the deck height - a B16A cylinder block has a 7mm shorter deck height than a B16B/B18/B20 cylinder block.

Yeah I think you may have been getting confused with the terms "big block" and "small block" like in domestic world

You don't need it when you rev up to 8k and have short gears.

What crack are you smoking? I have a B16, and lack of torque is the reason there's a GSR block in my wall locker
