I've got $1200 to spend on my VX. What should I do?
Alright, here's the deal.
My girlfriend just picked up a '92 VX with only 103k miles in amazing shape. You may have seen in on eBay, item # 4641741236. Anyway, she's got about $1200 left in her car budget. She already knows she's going to get a good tint job, a half-decent alarm, and a new head unit and speakers. That leaves her with maybe $600. She'd definitely like to free up some power, that thing is like molasses.
I'd like to know what you guys think she should drop her cash on.
I'm mechanically inclined and have done some work on cars, but don't know all the abbreviations and stuff used here, so please be specific.
Thanks for any input.

sorry to say but the vx is one of the hardest cars to get any power outta it. its the ewconomy vtec with the egr. so i would just save up for a swap or something. for the tint, i wouldnt do it
Don't bother spending $$$ to make your car go faster. It takes mucho $$$ to make the vx engine fast.
Maybe spend the money on some good tires to make the car handle better.

If you're mechanically inclined why are you asking how to free up power with a VX? With 600 bucks, the best bang for your buck would be throwing in a z6 or y8 and lower it. I had a vx and right after lowering it I swapped in a y8 then I fell in love with the car. I had to sell it after 3 years (2 kids). You're not going to "free up power" with the stock motor, not for 600 bucks anyway. Good luck with your project
theres always about 5 threads a day about what i should do. we're going to tell you the same thing everytime. make up your mind by yourself.
I'd save some money on the tint and possibly even the alarm. Use it towards a swap, or coilovers (even lowering springs). Just my opinion.

I understand you guys get this question a lot and I apologize for being redundant. I've been reading for days. I'm only posting my own question about what to do because there is not much info at all about VX's and because stuff I do find seems encrypted with abbreviations. I thought there might be specific info someone might offer for the VX. I'm not looking to make a race car, the fuel economy of the VX is amazing and she'd like to keep that.
If you don't have input, I'm sorry I inconvenienced you with this question.

just get a z6 or y8 swap, if you look around, you can find one for about 400 bucks, and then get a mild drop, and then you need an anilgnment if you want to keep those tires, so........her money limit will be a little over the remaining 600$ keep the wheels though, they are light as ****!

dont waste your money on making your honda go fast. don't waste your money on making it "Handle Better." The only reason a car needs to handle well is beacuse its fast, and takes corners fast. But if your going 5 mph around turns and have 90 hp, there is no reason to lower your car. Save the money and spend it elsewere.

On every car I've ever owned, the first step has been suspension...
then brakes...
then the engine.

How much was the final price? Last I saw it went up to $2500. I was pissed that they ended it so early on eBay
Anyway, that is a nice, clean VX. Please don't ruin it.

It won't get ruined. She is going to baby it.
She paid $2900. Which we know is high, but they were getting phone calls every 30 minutes about the car, so they were pretty firm on the price.
She needed a car because she starts a new job next week.
Another quick question - about one square foot of clear coat is missing on the hood. Think she's better off getting that fixed or looking for a new hood? I'm guessing either would be pretty cheap and easy...

Why mess with the powertrain?
50mpg is good.
If I had $600 to work with, I'd buy a set of Koni 8040s and some H&R Sports.
