I want to know if I can easily swap -
1) an Civic HX motor ( D16Y5 ) into a CRX Si or HF ( the HX will sold from 1996 and discontinued after 2005 ) ( there was some sort of change between 1988-1991 and 1992-1995 Civics and another change between 1996 and 2005 – so did the motor mounting change with the HX ? would I need a specific generation-year HX motor ? ). These are all D-Series motors, so do they all use the same motor mounts ???? Welding in new mounts might make me too afraid to try the project.
2) and use a ZC transmission ( I know a ZC transmission uses the same clutch and will bolt into an Si using the same motor mounts because I checked that ) I plan to put the tall HF 5th gear into the ZC transmission for cruising economy. The HX transmission uses a hydraulic clutch, so that is a good reason to use the ZC since it has a cable operated clutch.
3) A wiring swap company told me that they can make an Si or HF ( HF more difficult ) to HX harness. But, I need to know is the HX * P2N : 96+ OBD-2 will fit under the passenger floor just like the Si ECU.
4) Does anyone know of anybody who has actually done this swap ? Is there anything that I don’t know to ask ?

I know that the HX VTEC-E motor is designed for economy, but I want it for that reason and because it makes slightly more power than a stock 1988-91 Si . I don’t want the older VX engine because it has only 92 hp like a stock CRX DX and the HF only has 62hp ( really slow ). The HX should let me get 45-50 mpg in the smaller CRX while giving 0-60 in about 8 seconds ( HX Coupe uses an VTEC-E engine with 115 horsepower at 6,300 rpm versus Si’s 108hp ). This is enough to pass slow pokes on the 2-lane roads around here. ( For adrenaline happiness I have a street legalized 0-60 in 4.5 dirt bike that climbs roadless cliffs. )

B and D series: For the most part, you can “easily” swap any B or D series engine into a 4th gen Civic or CRX, or 88+ Civic for that matter. They do not require special fabrication of mounts, and there are many kits available to perform the swap. Some swaps, due to size and location problems, make it necessary to relocate the master cylinder, but that is a simple task. As far as the swap is concerned, the engines are mounted in the same way, so everything lines up perfectly. POSTED BY civic1784

all d series is the same as mounting the motor goes. you just have to use all the original mounts from the crx. for the wiring, if you got the money than anything is possible. but overall the swap is possible.
