prelude or GS-R.. sorry!
hey guys, i was very close to closing a deal on a 2000 Type-R, but things fell apart right at the end. anyways, im looking into a 5th gen. prelude SH now or an integra GS-R. people have been telling me that the prelude is really heavy and slugish compared to the GS-R. any comments? i know both are pretty close speed-wise, how do they compare handling and braking-wise? im kinda leaning towards the prelude, but i really want to know if it's a fun car to drive. thanks boys!

PS: i know this has probably been beaten to death so dont go nuts on me. be nice..

well the Prelude was rated the best handling car under $30k in car and driver I think, so it will easily out handle the GSR, and as far as it being sluggish, the 200hp makes up for the heavy body. I would definately get a lude over a GSR.
i own a prelude and i'v driven a gsr, man i would go with the prelude i find that they handle alot better then gsr's and braking is better in a prelude and prelude's are faster then gsr's but that's my own opinion other people might think different.
In my 1995 Prelude SRV i raced my friend who has a JDM GSR in a 1993 civic hatch and i have come out victorious on a few ocasions

Preludes are also more exclusive and a lot rarer.
It would have been nice if Acura had done something to visually differentiate the LS, GS, GSR and ITR. besides the minor crap (rims and spoiler). the GSRs and ITRs sold in the US should have had the JDM one piece headlight look.

Blah blah blah. Prelude is soooooo heavy. Blah blah blah. Stock GSR is slower. Blah blah blah. Everyone and their dog has an Integra. Blah blah blah. Prelude looks better. Blah blah blah. Stock Prelude is slower. Blah blah blah. Integra looks better. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah.
Are you really going you base the purchase of a $15,000+ car on the advice of random people on an internet message board. Do your research. Get insurance quotes. Test drive both. Make a decision.

What car you want is up to you. It's your car so who cares what anyone else thinks. Personally I own a Prelude but I think GRS are nice as well. How about you decide based on what you want to do to the car. Performance wise, I believe GSR responds better to mods than the Prelude does. Modding is cheaper on a GSR as well.
By the way if you are even thinking about going FI, go with the base Prelude not the SH. ATTS doesn't like a bump in power.

If you want something to take to the street races and tear some people up, get the GSR. SHs don't like boost from what I've heard, so unless you like nitrous you will be slow.
If you want to be diffeent and drive a nicer car get the SH. With tthe right driver it can beat any GSR.
How about an LS with an H22A?

Test drive both.
My brother has a 99 GSR and I have a 00 prelude (base). As for which is faster, they're about the same. I have more horsepower, he has less weight. I think mine handles better than his did before he got springs and shocks (Pro-kits and Bilstein HDs), but now his handles as good as mine. I think my brakes are a little better (we're both stock on those).
The only thing I'll say about your decision is if you want to modify, it's tough and expensive to find parts for the prelude. If you get the lude, you'll have to figure out alot of things on your own (like what's the best....). The GSR has tons of aftermarket support.

thas why you get the JDM front end...
But seriously, its totally up to you. go test drive 'em both. Its funny cuz almost EVERYONE here is biased. You should check out the integra forum. Everyone says GS-R hands down, and in here, most people say Prelude.
Go test drive em!

I raced a healthy GS-R with a competant driver; GS-R had AEM CAI, DC Sports headers, Aftermarket CAT, Greddy SP Exhaust, and ACT Clutch. He still lost by almost 2 car lenghts. At that time all my car had was an AEM Short Ram intake. Even the SI will roll right with the GS-R, although it takes a hell of a launch in that torqueless bitch! I swear when I get out of the SI and into the lude it feels like I have the torque of a blown v-8. but she pulls so nicely up to 8k and nothing can match the sound of a b series engine, well aside from the 2ZZ-GTE (celica gts).
Basically read this article. Read why the Prelude ranked first among 6 sport compact cars including the GS-R, Celica GT-S, 3rd Gen Eclipse, ect.

2 cars? and thas your car with only a short ram intake?? hmmm- Sorry, but the GS-R driver sucked or his car was weak...
My experience with lightly mod'd preludes were different. I'd give em a helluva run...
Driver makes a world of a difference

I have both, and I love both, but if you are looking for a car that you want to upgrade in the future. Save yourself some time and get the GSR. There are way more parts available for the B series than the H series. But if you are looking to go pretty much stock, I would get the Lude and have fun!
I sold my '98 GS-R to buy the '01 Base Lude. The Lude is quieter, rides and steers better (not so much kickback), has stronger brakes, and has a better-built interior.
That said, the GS-R had more of a "go-kart" feel, due to the lower weight, and always felt like it had quicker reflexes. It doesn't display the near-neutral character of the Lude, but it's an easier car to trail brake and throttle-steer, which can be useful when you get too deep into a corner. I had to put a LSD in the Lude just to get that "right now!" level of input back.
Drive 'em and decide!
