Default Redlined 3rd gear downshifted into 2nd Gear

I was out in the burbs of Chicago with my cousin today. 74 degree's, the warmest day of the year. It started on the highway on the way back to chicago. He was driving hard and redlined 3rd gear (92mph) and he downshifted into 2nd gear ( app. 62 mph) and i almost laid one in my pants. That i estimate the engine winding around 11,000 rpm.
Symptoms - Idle bogs, very lumpy.
- Lower RPM doesn't really move, VTEC still hits.
- Tranny has problems with me putting it into gear.
- when the car is parked and reved, the motor shakes.
- check engine light came on - codes 7 and 3 were read.
Possible problems - Gear sync's totally warped
- bent valves
???????????
Well guys, any information would be greatly appreciated.

Was your cuz driving your car? It sounds like some valves were bent. Get a compression check, that will answer your question. About the tranny, the synchros could be shot, but that would not be a reason for not being able to get in gear, the transmission fluid could have been boiled, but I doubt it. Hope that helped. Also, sorry to hear about that.

Had a similar problem but mine wasn't this severe... just take it to the dealership and hope they'll cover for it...good luck!

same thing happened to me, the syncros were fine, the clutch however, was obliterated. that's why you're having trouble shifting, you're basically rev matching each gear. you've definitely bent some valves as well. friends don't let friends do dumb ****. at least i can blame myself for my fuckup

Dude.. you mis-shifted, and instead of figuring out if something was wrong, you tried and hit VTEC again? Are you sick?

Sounds like a bunch of bent valves... and, if you keep doing what you described, soon to be more trouble.

You have bent valves.

I probably would kick the crap out of my cousin and make him pay for all damages, then kick his *** again when he recovers.

You don't ever beat on other people's cars if you can't afford to pay for damages you caused.

I really appreciate this guys. Had like the worst day today. the only thing that went good was the weather. Washed my R, waxed my R today, only to realize that i can't be driving it and tomorrow is friday. Nice weather out too. i will have to drop off my car at a local performance shop and see what they can do with it. I just want to know how much damage could accumalate. He's my cousin, he's taking his responsibility with it so i can't complain. Its just the fact that not having a car sucks. Now i do know better though, the R is a driver's car. I am the only driver from now on.

Well since the head is off now's the time to install high compression pistons along with cams and a suitable valvetrain if you so wish.

It's nice to hear he's taking responsibility for his actions.

Glad to hear your cousin is going to own up to his mistake. I would never want to be in either position, yours or his.

It's not like the dealer would cover it under warranty, because they don't pay for wear and tear items or driver error.

I'd fix it myself, but if that's not an option I'd go to the dealer.

Well, since the head is coming off anyway, do you think you could afford to install CTR pistons?

You can easily do the valvetrain later.
