stupid v tec question
can an upgaded cam and head porting plus exhaust make my vtec scream like a dohc.you know ."waaaaaabaaaaaa" stupid question but im curious. i have eg z6
yes. vtec will sound louder and u will also feel it more. the "kick" will be harder, and ull def. feel it pull harder
safe to upgrade valvetrain too while ur at it.

thanks. its almost sucks that i got vtec but cant really feel it like a duel. i want the kick and audible diffrence.extra power would be cool . any cam you recomend?
Skunk 2 is a very good company. They have a variety of cams, check out their website skunk2racing.com or just give them a call and ask a tech there what you should go with. I think they have stage 1-3 then a turbo cam. skunk 2 makes quality parts!!!
thanks. i couldnt find a thread on this so i had to ask. does anyone out there have a single that kicks and sounds like a duel when vtec hits.

so the cam is really making that much of a difference? maybe i should invest in some cams

What stage cam are you running? Im thinking about going with skunk2 and have almost that exact setup.

Yeah, any change in an exhaust is going to change the sound and upgrade in the cams and head port should add some noise unless they are made to reduce it (the head ports that is)
There's a Zex/comp cam that's decently cheap and makes good power. Of course you get what you pay for.. I've heard they can break. In half.
Crower can set you up with valve springs, retainers, valves and a cam for a reasonable cost as well.

Most peak power gains will be in that range, however they all create a different powerband. Some will create more power on the low end, some on the high end, some in the mid range, etc....figure out where you want the most power to come on and then pick a cam that will suit your needs

So you want to have significant losses in your torque curve?
Just set your VTEC engagement point to about 6500 RPM. You'll feel a kick.

If you want kick/loudness go with Crower cams, probably stage 1, but make sure on any stage you get your valvetrain done, otherwise you'll have to get your valves reinforced every 20k miles. Especially if you have a heavy foot. I'd recommend springs and retainers at the least.
If you want the best power though, go with Skunk2.
I love the sound of crower cams, but they're just not tuned as well as Skunk2's.

the stage 2 skunk2 cams are a good deal, i've seen them at jaw dropping prices lately. throw that, some new springs and retainers and a header on the z6 and you'll be satisfied for another month or so. might want an act clutch and lightened flywheel too. feels better.
