SOME GT LIVE PICS----------

GT LIVE, by design, could have been a very successful event. I guess being at a racetrack in the desert day, forecast at 104 degrees, probably doesn't get people excited about being there.
I am not sure what the attendence was, but honestly, it was pretty low. Really low actually.
I hoped that the event was more successful than this, because it seemed like Mike at Paramax really tried to set up something big with an event that had: 3 PROFESSIONAL TELEVISED RACE CLASSES, TIME ATTACK, DRIFT COMPETITION, CAR SHOW, RALLY CROSS, AUTOCROSS, RIDEALONGS, etc...
Maybe next time at Cali Speedway, in better weather with JGTC?
The Rolex Protype race was awesome though- those cars really cook...
Here are some pics I took- I both of my Camera batteries were dead, and I was only able to take 59 pics. Completely dead by mid-day. Bummer.
In regards to the ST Class race: It was a Acura 1/2 finish! The boys from Davis Acura #144 RSX overtook the HART RSX in a pitcrew vs. pitcrew battle- the HART car lead the entire 1 1/2 hours until the pit stop, in which the Davis guys were able to make up the 3 second gap and put their man in the lead for the final sprint. They were basically neck and neck for 2 HOURS STRAIGHT! I love it when the Pit Crew is the deciding factor in a race...

In this particular race, it was honestly, the most exciting part. (The HART car was in the lead for almost the entire race, with 1 and 2 pos 3 seconds apart for the entire time. The 144 Davis car pitted first, with a pit time of anout 47 seconds (we timed it), and the HART car stayed out for 1 more lap. When the HART Car came in, we calculated that the pitstop cannot be longer than 52 seconds- and we watched the time click by. The pit stop was literally 3 seconds or so too long and the 144 car passed the HART car at pit exit! Kinda like F1... fun to watch.

I'm not sure if the ST class race was telivised, but I am almost positive that the Prototype Race was live. We were also watching parts of the race on the TV's at the track, and it looked like a live feed from speed (with commercials and all).
Oh, and another thing I liked about the event was that we were allowed to walk into the cold pit area where the crews were at. Right up against hot pit wall. The PIR crew, both Safety personell and Security Guards were all really cool! Great staff there.

I'm sure it was exciting that the outcome was decided in the pits. I wish I was there to see it all. Hope GT Live comes back to SoCal next year. I was just poking fun at that statement.
Lead changes usually occur in the pits for F1, which is really boring (but I still watch it). CART racers pass each other on the track as well as the in the pits for the lead, way more fun to watch. Its even more fun to watch when P1 and P2 pit at the same time and their pit boxes are within a few spots of each other. You can FEEL the pressure the pit guys are under when both cars are pitting close to each other.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. And I mentioned it in this in particular because even through all o fthe races I have seen, raced in, etc... this particular race had that pressure you mentioned above.
Speaking of passing- the Daytona Prototype race was FULL of Passes. Since the class is mixed with Prototypes and GT (?) cars, the speed differential is pretty significant, so there is always an opportunity to have cars bunch up over and over again for more crazy passing opportunities. It was a really exciting race to watch in person- passing everywhere.
We happened to watch most of the race from Turn 1 (i think it's turn 1, the end of the long straight) and man, it got dicey in there plenty of times- with 3CWMCPM (3-cars-wide-multi-class-passing-meyhem.)

Yea, I was at Willow last week with Driving Concepts to get my license for Honda Challenge. We had many simulated race starts that weekend and going into turn one THREE wide with me in the MIDDLE was CRAZY. I was passing the guys on the inside and the cars on the outside we're passing me at about 60-70 MPH.

Brian turned the fastest race lap in our legacy on lap 2. A 1:10.8. But I know that in qualifying the RSXs were in the high 1:09s.
