removing CRV rear drivetrain
Hey all,
I'd like to put an electric motor directly mounted to the rear differential on my '97 CRV. How can I "trick" the front transmission into ignoring the rear drive? In other words, it would be spinning freely and I'm not sure of the impact that would have.
Any thoughts?

Just remove the center driveshaft. Even though I don't think your attempt at a Hybrid is going to be very sucessful since the rear diff on yours is designed to be able to slip to a degree.

Oh shoot... so the rear differential itself slips? How does this work? I thought this took place up in the front of the car at the transmission. So the rear differential isn't just a regular differential, eh? Anyway to get around this?

For an example if you were to put the truck on a lift with the transmission in park (or 1st gear) you would be able to still turn both rear wheels in the same direction (with a decent amount of resistance but it can still be done) I use that to gauge the amount of wear in the clutch system without having to do more in depth tests. You could remove the clutch packs and replace it with a solid shaft or drill a few holes all the way through and run bolts the whole way through to "fix the diff". So no it's not a traditional rear end (you could tell this by just comparing a traditional rear end to the one in your truck.
