i have searched and searched but im getting mixed signals... are Skunk2 Pro 1 camshafts safe to run on a stock JDM ITR motor as long as i do not rev past the stock redline?!?
tell me what you think

i figured since the stock head revs to 9500, reving to 9000 with pro 1's once in a while would be ok

As long as you like destroying your motor.

I just built this.
jdm itr pistons .005 in the hole
coated pistons by me
Rocket hand ported head stock valve gsr.
Skunk pro -1 cams
aebs portmatched manifold with stock gsr t-body
Rmf header. 2.1/4 in exhaust
214 whp..
i'll make a post about it this week.

nice numbers.
What type of dyno (dynojet?)?

Explain. I mean, I know they were done on different dyno's in different areas, but they were both on a Dynojet. They were both tuned with quality headers, I mean there is allot that they have in common here. I know that the Pro1 motor has more left in it, but a 30whp difference???

here is a perfect example:
b18c1 block
usdm type r pistons
2 layer head gasket
dtr b-unit header
t1r exhaust
blox in. mani.
64mm throttle body
gsr head w/rocket valvetrain
comptech ice box
m22x

pro1's(thin line velocity stack/thick line comptech intake)

motor was dynoed on a dyna pack 2 different places.

A 5k vtec cross over on a M22x is much too low, and it's aparent that the Pro1's recieved much more tuning. Peak torque at 4,700 rpms is not a properly tuned M22x either.
vtec was set a 6000 rpm on on m22x 6300 on pro1's. i know your all about rockets products, and you would defend him to the end, but extensive tuning went into both cams. im not going to go into the statistics of it all, but i will never run a RM products ever again and it goes far beyond his cams.

I haven't ran Rocket camshafts but I am all for Pro1's. Seems like Rocket has a lot of Hype on H-T.

I personally don't think there is allot of hype with Rocket's products because there are not many that have ran his cams.(compared to other larger companies) People seem to still be set on the BLOX line and the S2 products, though not a bad thing, I'm just saying...how can there be hype when they are ran by fewer than anything else? If you want to get down to it, the only camshaft that I have ever seen that produces results time and time again is the Jun 3 profile. People have had semi-par results with RM/S2/Crower/Toda, but people have also had awesome results with those products also.. Does that mean that they are bad because one person had a bad result with them? It's almost like a "whats the best header" convo, there isn't such a thing...some people have better luck with other companies over another, thats all. I recieved a pm from Runnerdown that was interesting, explaining the graphs that he posted above and I respect him for that. I do stand behind the RM line, BUT you will see me on here also recommending different camshafts to different people. I just put in my .2 and if people want to take my opinion then thats cool, I'm confident in what I suggest and I truly believe that they will make horsepower. I'm nowhere near a Tbone/DonF/MAX_CFM/and SO MANY others on here(please don't take offense if I didn't name you), but I know better than to suggest the same cam profile in every motor setup and what it's used for, thats all.
