Looking at a supercharged S2000...should I?
Alright guys, I might be re-joining the Honda family (sold my Prelude over a year ago) with an S2000. I've found one locally that's caught my eye. It's a yellow 2001 with 33,000 miles, 04 front and rear bumpers, Enkei 18 inch wheels with new tires, Sparco steering wheel, RSR springs, and the Comptech supercharger with about 1,000 miles on it. Claims to make about 325 hp. Asking $20,500 firm.
Is this something I should look into? Being a younger guy I was trying to stay around or under the $20,000 line with a stock car since it will just be a second car, but this sounds like a nice car and a lot of guys I know can vouch for it. I don't know much about S2000's yet, let alone ones with aftermarket superchargers lol. I've seen pictures and it looks really good, haven't had a chance to look at it yet.

I don't know. IMO, i wouldn't buy a car that is already heavily modified. Since you know that car is already Force inducted, the previous owner, probably, well mostly of time, beat that crap out of it. But it's all on proper judgement.
That's what I was thinking. I always try to buy cars totally stock from more "matured" adults so I can modify it myself. Plus being a mechanic half the fun of having a modified car is modifying it myself!
Would you guys recommend looking somewhere like ebay? I work at a dealership but have never seen an S come through.

lol I work at Carmax, they don't really go to many auctions they just let the cars come to them
What about high miles? I found one with 70k on it and don't know what to look for maintenance-wise on these

dealers usually have some kind of program that they can see the used cars availible and order them, i know at my honda dealer they did that, so u could tell the year color miles and they can see whats in the area that can be shipped to them, ask a sales guy about it, but its coming up on summer so the S is going to be in demand, and more expensive. plus they arent making them much longer,
my local dealer had 6 new S2k's last summer, i havent seen one yet this year in their lot.

If the cars making 325, its not the factory comptech pulley, its been upgraded. Even with the 7 psi pulley its hard to make that much hp without running extemely lean. Pass on it, its been beat on.

I know the car he's talking about. I was thinking about it too.
the thing I don't like about it the most is that he removed the factory steering wheel to put in a sparco. I personally would want the airbag.
here's the car:

he's selling it because he has too many cars already one of which is another modded s2000.

Unless you're familiar with tail-happy rear wheel drive cars, drive a stock one first. Cars already modified could lead to some serious head scratching/banging later.
I know the guy selling this exact S2000....its done right and well-maintained. You can buy with much confidence.
If you want more reassurance...go to this site and ask some of the posters around there, they will tell you the same: http://www.s2ki.com/forums/ind...m=104.
If it makes you feel better, if I was in position to do something with my current S2000 and buy his, I would do it without hesitation.

Well I think I'm just going to stick with stock. Definitely going to try to keep the price under $20,000 (being as I'm just a 21 year old guy lol), and I'm not sure if I'm going to buy one and make it daily (sell my bike or car), or keep my Celica as a DD and garage the S. hmmmm
